According to the link, Flames are able to offer sheet a player for $2,290,458 - $4,580,917 for 2nd round pick compensation.

It would cost as much to trade Huberdeau as it would to sign an RFA to Huberdeau’s contract.

Okay, my new sidequest for Conroy over the next week, trade with a team not named Vancouver or New Jersey.

I would actually be quite happy with another trade with New Jersey right now. 10th overall would be nice.

So with Seravalli absolutely convinced that Marner will be traded this off season does that move him in to TRUE insider? For me, I still see him as a fringe guy but since he is the one touting this stance the most I think this is a do or die to convince people he is deserving of the mic time or just posturing troll to get as many sound bites as possible since angry sells. Time will see.

While Flames fans may not like him, he is already a "true" insider. Probably better than most.

Yeah Seravalli is one of the top insiders for sure. The guy spilled the beans on pretty much every expansion pick the day before the Seattle expansion draft.

Seravalli like everyone in Toronto, knows what Marners personality is. He just simply won't take well to being a scape goat by the fans. But that doesn't mean he'll want to be pigeon holed into going to Columbus. I have no doubt that his team and him will hold steady until Treliving negotiates a sign and trade to a team that suits him. Else his "threat" will be to start the season with the Leafs. But no way he can handle waiting to the playoffs to prove himself in a contract year. There's just too much pressure. He'll sign and trade to a team that benefits him. Just wait and see how this all works out.

For a long-term deal, I would, but I agree that he would not be interested in signing an offer sheet like that for $4.5M.

For a short term deal I'd rather have the 2nd round pick as it should be pretty high next year.

Seravalli is a hack. Most "insiders" new of the expansion choices but sit on stuff like that to not step on the league or team with their big event. He was desperate to break it and make a name for himself

23 year old Dawson Mercer in 2025 will almost certainly be better short, medium and long term than the 18 year old they will pick next year.

What good is it going to do? We aren't challenging for the Cup next year with or without him. I'd rather have the pick unless he's foolish enough to sign a long-term $4.5M offer sheet and the Devils are foolish enough not to match it.

Of all the teams rumoured to be willing to trade their first round pick, the one that definitely should is Buffalo. That team is absolutely loaded with high end prospects of every kind and at pretty much every position. Almost to the point where they don’t have room to give their players opportunities to be put in the right spot. And, more importantly, they should be trading their pick to get better right now… there is no franchise in the league that has a fanbase more tired of the patient rebuild that the Sabres. Ownership/management has an obligation to start getting better. I really don’t think there is much available for that team at 11th overall that they need in 3 years and they need to get better and start making the playoffs now. Sounds like they might go after Necas which is fine. They could also use the pick to trade for a veteran top four defenceman (Andersson?). Whatever they do… the status quo should not be the answer.

First reaction is gross. I don't know why Fitz does this. The Devils have a lot of players who need contracts shortly, I can't see Necas taking less than $7M, not enough money to do all that.

If I tilt my head far enough to the side, this might work if the Canes take Palat and send back 27th OA.
