Would have considered a trade like that. Hope Conroy is looking at trades like that.

It’s one thing we have not seen him do yet. There’s been a couple recent trades where teams are gaining picks for taking on contracts (Chicago and San Jose). Wonder if the flames will consider any trades like that.

I think it's still a bit of a pipe dream to expect the owners to throw away millions for draft picks. They're probably sour enough with retention on Markstrom, paying Huberdeau to lead a losing a team, and dealing with a less than full stadium.

Kinda shocked the Blackhawks are giving up on Bedard this fast but I'm glad it's not much of an overpay from my team's end.

For a 2nd rounder? No thanks. Mikheyev makes 5 million for 2 more years.
Maybe if chicago sending something back that's a bit valuable.

Which direction are you going with these comments, they look to contradict each other to me.
You (the Flames) wouldn’t take a 2nd rounder to help Vancouver clear out those contracts? But maybe if you could pay Vancouver something valuable too you’d do it?

You think the trade is better for Chicago if they send something back?

Yes I mean in salary. Taking on 5 million without sending back something in salary for a 2nd rounder is absurd imo.
Maybe if chicago sends back a 2 million dollar salary it makes a bit of sense.
A 2nd rounder for $10 million is just a bad deal imo.

Another issue is that it blocks a development spot. If the Flames are acquiring players like Mikheyev, they also likely plan on playing them. The Flames should be giving those spots to the kids.

I don't think you understand how this trade works.

Remember, the Canucks gave up a 2nd to dump Dickinson and he had a great year in Chicago.

Isn't this why the Sens lost their first round pick in the Evgenii Dadonov deal? Since there were problems with his no-trade clause.

No that was a totally different situation. He was traded without the team knowing he had a no trade clause iirc.

It's becoming more and more common - we saw it last summer with the STL-PHI trade that was supposed to involve Tory Krug.

And then that team could not trade him subsequently, that is why they lost their first round pick. Almost incredible that the NHL does not have a central database of contracts with their terms. But here we are, 6 billion dollar business that does not know that information.

Jake Walman plus a 2nd for futures was a better deal than this one, and the kind of deal using cap space that I would like Conroy to consider
