				 NHL rule changes for 2024/2025

			https://media.nhl.com/public/news/18216
Quick Cole’s notes here:

-Coaches can now challenge delay of game (puck out of play) calls to have the penalty struck down
-No line change if your goalie accidentally dislodges the net
-Players sitting on the boards by the bench will be given 1 warning, then a bench minor
-Small change to face offs

I really like both the challenge for delay of game as well as the goalie “accidentally” dislodging the net changes.

I was just thinking we need more challenges to disrupt the flow of the game.

Especially ones that will require 300 replays and still not be conclusive just for the league to rule whatever fits their game management |

Gotta give linesmen their time to shine as well, not just with the offsides.

Just make a puck over the glass a no change. If it is a goalie or a clear shot over the glass make it subjective for the ref to award 2 mins.

The accidental PK clearance that puts a team down 5-3 is fking dumb and not in the spirit of the game or the rule imo.

I'm not understanding the problem they have with the players sitting on the boards and why that is a penalty.
Getting called for that is just another penalty that will outrage the fanbase because you know they'll ignore that penalty after March and then call it in a clinching game in the playoffs.

the NHL is fascinated by tired players not able to change. I don't think that leads to more goals as the defending team just bunkers. But it takes away counter attacks if the offensive team messes up because.. tired players.
And teams just delay and cheat anyways to steal more time

You know what I'm even more excited for?
That 2 minute wait between the ref announcing the penalty, then the team stalling the faceoff long enough to review it on their Ipad 20 times, then challenging.

2 unnecessary delays for the price of 1!

It's dangerous for the linesmen. One got cut pretty badly this year.

So true. I used to enjoy when they'd show coaches after a goal to see if they were pissed off, calm, etc. Now it's just their bald spot as they stare at an iPad on the floor.

They should just ban iPads and radios to coaches upstairs and make them challenge based on what they can figure out from the bench.

Puck over glass should be equivalent to an icing call.

I wish they put a time clock on how long a player can take on their penalty shot or shootout shot. It should mimic a breakaway situation. Give a guy 7 seconds from the second the whistle blown to start. Seeing guys take 10 seconds is painful as it’s not in the spirit of the game.

Are players sitting on the boards by the bench really an issue?

Guessing there are things we don’t see on camera - sitting guys interfering with guys on the ice, or linesman getting confused over who’s getting on or just getting off.

Please remove video review on offsides. The pursuit of meaningless perfection is ruining the games.

I find this so weird .

People want wrong calls potentially costing a team the game ?

I think having faster review should be the goal , but I think they should be able to challenge anything .

It’s just a penalty if you are wrong

They're 1 mm offside and 30 seconds later they get a goal. What about if the same thing happens and you're losing, but they don't get a goal? Should you be able to challenge that to put all the time back on the clock?

Just let them play; nothing feels worse than celebrating a goal only to look foolish when it gets called back for some ticky-tack thing like that.
