I recall in 2004, the media was pushing the "Canada's team" thing, and most Flames fans didn't want the bandwagoners. The national media didn't give a crap about the Flames up until then and it was something special for us. It didn't seem like Flames fans were craving approval from everyone else the way Oilers fans do.
In fact, I don't recall Vancouver, Ottawa, or Montreal fans doing that in their SCF runs either. This seems to be specifically an Oilers thing.
Of course it’s an Edmonton thing. Vancouver and Montreal are world class cities. Calgary tho smaller is very nice and is known for the Stampede. Ottawa is the nations capital.
Edmonton has never had anything other than the oilers. They crave attention, it’s why they built the world’s biggest mall that just repeats stores. There is nothing more desperate than “building the world’s biggest mall”. Without the oilers, no one would know that Edmonton exists.

Oilers media trying so hard to convince the UFAs on the spot to come back and frame things positively.
Doesn't it make it easier to accept less money when you are on a team that was so close to winning? Pretty please?
NHL playoffs are a crapshoot and the Oilers media framing this like, oh will you come back because you'll obviously win a cup next year is the kind of classic unprofessional media rose colored glasses takes you see up there

My nephews and I, we all didn't want to be the "Canada's Team"! The Flames are OUR team and don't want anyone else claiming any part of that!

Exactly. Flames weren’t even supposed to make the playoffs that year. And certainly no one expected them to make it to the finals, especially Flames fans. We were just happy that they made the dance, and every time they won a round it was just gravy.
Every team they played was first place in their division. Detroit, TB and SJ were 1-2-3 in league standings (SJ was tied with Boston for 3rd).

I posted this on the other thread, but I think I should post this NG entertainment here as well:
My god I know they're defeated after the game 7 loss but it just stands out to me how BAD Draisaitl and McDavid are with the media. Contrast that with literally any other player on the team that was interviewed afterwards, yeesh.
Draisaitl doesn't not sound like he wants/intends to stay, IMO.
But there is 12 months to play out, and money talks
Part of the question is if he wants to stay without McDavid. Because him signing a long term deal could make it impossible for Edmonton to sign McDavid

Paraphrasing
Reporter: "Is trying to re-sign in Edmonton your first preference, then you'll see what happens down the road?"
Pissy: "Well duh, Edmonton is the only team that has a chance right now, so obviously they are first, so I guess."
Can Draisaitl ever go a full presser without saying something condescending to the media? I realize some reporters can ask weird questions, but he doesn't always need to be pissy. It's really not that hard to say, yes my first preference would be to re-sign, then kick it down the road behind closed doors. You say the positive things out of respect for the fans.

I really hope Pissy drag them on and they end up losing him for nothing at the end.
Well, they'll get another crack at it, not nothing.
The best thing for them is to trade him now, and the best thing for us is if he gets a max term deal that kicks in at age 30. We've seen his best days. The peak isn't yet to come.
