I would think something like #15 + 2nd + a warm body is a reasonable trade.
But if I were Conroy and considering this, I would wait to see who is still on the table at 15, before pulling the trigger.

Remember Calgary in 2013 or Boston in 2015. 3 picks each. One actual NHL player each. And funnily enough, the actual players (Monahan and Debrusk) were picked with the teams original pick, not ones they acquired.

Fair but there is a slight difference between Monahan and 2 very late firsts then Boston having three picks all in the top 15 with Barzal, Connor, Chabot, Boeser and Konecny on the board. Boston nailed the equivalent of hitting into a triple play in baseball with that trio.

Oh man, I'm on the Kakko train. I honestly feel like we can hit a homerun with him. He screams another Sharangovich for me, possibly with even higher upside.
Please Conroy, make this happen.

Please no! Health issues and looks like a bust. The Rangers would not be getting rid of him if they thought he’d progress like Lafreniere

It's quite ridiculous isn't it. They couldn't have done worse if they tried.
The Calgary picks in 2013 weren't nearly as egregious, though they missed out on Burakovsky and Theodore. A better equivalent would more like trading down to get Jankowski (who was ranked in the 2nd round) and ensuring you couldn't pick Wilson, Teravainen, Hertl or Vasilevski.

He's produced at a 20 goal rate when getting 15+ mins of ice time. He's been buried on the bottom six with the Rags for most of his career and he's 23 years old. Missing games due to injury early in his career, he still has time to get healthy. Lot's of good players started with injuries early on. See Zary or even Eichel if you want to look at a #2 overall.
I think he's a perfect buy low candidate and Scandinavian players always seem to flourish with us. 6'2", shows flashes of a great shot, great skating, just needs to work on consistency and drive. Sounds like majority of young players to me.

Does Andersson+28 for Chabot+7 make sense or is that way too slanted in the Flames favor? Same aged Dmen Chabot makes $8Mx4 and Andersson makes $4.55Mx2.
Rasmus is the better player but not sure if that closes the gap on 7 to 28? Flames need to add but Ottawa could use the cap relief and upgrade on their right side.

Who are we replacing Anderrson with? We have 2 proven top 6 NHL defensemen on our roster currently, and we want to get rid of one?
I'm all for tanking but this seems extreme.

Well in the trade directly above your comment, Chabot would be coming back, and he's a defenseman.

Well in the case above your post, Chabot.
In general trading Andersson discussions, the answer is if this is a rebuild, it doesn't matter for next season.

One thought is the Flames could weaponize some cap space and make large 1-2 year offers to free agents who might want to enter the free agent pool when the cap approaches $100M? If guys aren’t getting the 5-6 year offers the Flames can offer more money on a 1-2 year deal and flip them to a contender at the deadline.
Andersson is the best trade chip this team has. They do not need to move him now but I think he should be a priority to trade at the deadline so a team gets 2 playoff runs on this contract. I do not like the prospect of giving Andersson 8x8 when he is 30

Realistically it shouldn’t matter next two seasons. Operation McKenna is in full force.

Btw. The idea isn't to always end up with #1 overall pick or bust....
For example, next year -- yes James Hagens is at #1......but in that Top 5 mix are Anton Frondell and Ivan Ryabkin.
Ryabkin who is trending to be on par or better than Demidov...Kucherov....Michkov.....think about that a bit. Lots of top end talent in the pipeline in the next 2 drafts.

Draft McKenna in 2026, then in 2029 when Bedard can first be eligible to become a UFA, he signs with the Flames because it was always his dream to play on the same team as his cousin.
Could happen, right?

Probably more than this draft.
Which is why:
1) trading Markstrom was a good idea, and our standing in the next draft is more important than the return was
2) getting the extra 25 and 26 1st rounders was so important.
This draft is going to be a lot of fun. But I am even more excited about the next 2 drafts.

Or the nightmare scenario where McKenna waits uNtil he is a UFA and joins the hawks.

Jack Campbell 50% retained + Edmonton 2027 unprotected 1st round pick to anybody for future considerations. Who says no?

Oilers. The buyout is better than that retention
