Wasn't there a team / players that actually stayed and watched the cup presentation from their bench once...TBH to me that was actually neat.
McDavid not coming out to accept the Conn Smythe just shows how big of a baby he was IMO, his own family seemed dissapointed he didn't come out.

You could read his dad's lips as he stood there with his phone up:
"He's not coming out? Ok, lets go".

Given that McDavid has never been on a team that has won a championship and has probably won an MVP or two while on those teams, you'd think he'd be used to this situation.

I can’t believe I’m about to defend McDavid, but in his situation, I’d be very likely to not come out either.
Sadly, at the age of 55, I’ve just about come to terms with the fact that I’m unlikely to make it to the NHL, so we’ll never know what I would’ve done.

Because look what happens when the winner isn't on the cup winning team. They don't want the award, and they're in no mood to accept it. Just give the darn thing to someone on the winning team.

What’s funny is that McDavid is going to be 28 this year and Pissy is gonna 29.. they’ve been at it for a decade. And for being the two “Best players” they might only ever win once on the oilers, if ever.
They might have to trade now and I think they both might see the writing on the wall.

I don't think anyone reeally had an issue with McDavid not coming out, but at least for me, it's just more about dumping on him and the Oilers any way possible

I very much had an issue. As stated by others above, you have an obligation when you are in the spotlight like our athletes are. They are expected to be ambassadors of the game and he specifically is paid exceptionally well to be the "face of the game" so should have done what everyone before him has. Accept the award, suck it up for a few minutes and then he was free to pout.
Being the first player to ever do something or set a record is not always a good thing, he should have just put on his adult pants for a minute and acted like an adult.

I don't have big problems with it in isolation, but it is a sign of poor leadership.
If it was a one off, might be forgivable (although every other Conn Smythe winner has managed to pick theirs up).
However, these types of events that show lack of leadership are common with McDavid. We've seen it repeatedly over the years with him - he doesn't seem to be learning, and its a big factor with whether McDavid can be a winner.

Agreed. He shouldnt get special treatment. You can find photos of all the other "losing team Conn Smythe trophy winners" excepting the award (except for Reggie Leach, I couldnt find a photo, however I seem to remember seeing one once) why should he be considered "a winner" for not doing it?

Yea you guys are right. Honestly someone should punch me through their screen for even attempting to speak nicely about the Oilers.
F*** McDavid that sore loser.

Nah, man.
Leadership is going back to the locker room with your teammates. Telling them all that individual trophies are #### and the only one that matters is the stanley cup. Then say, next year, we will be out there raising both trophies.
All these dudes having their dreams crushed, then golden boy says "hold on guys, i have to go accept this trophy", but i will be back.

I can see both sides. On one hand I can completely sympathize with McDavid there. He wants to win. He doesn’t care about individual awards and in that moment that’s not what he wants to be doing. So I get it. I wouldn’t want to go out there either.
On the other hand, you’re the current face of the league. You just received a very prestigious award and by refusing to accept it you could argue he devalued the award. He also embarrassed the commissioner by leaving him at the altar on the biggest stage. It was definitely an awkward moment and a bad look. It also comes across as a tad classless.
The Flames fan in me wants to roast him for it, but the hockey player in me 100% gets it. So I think I tend to lean towards letting him off the hook.

Stauffer said the Oilers will learn and come back, likely get 52-55 wins next season.
I mean it took a 16 game win streak and 2 8 game win streaks to make the playoffs for them. That doesn't happen yearly.
Also experience doesn't matter Bob, remember the Buffalo Bills.

The guy wouldn't go out for a 30-second photo op when his own family were sitting in the stands with their cameras ready. Every other Conn Smythe winner from a losing team went out to accept the trophy.
There's no excusing him here.
