It was a petulant move. Like the Swedish hockey player who tossed away his silver medal at the world juniors. Not something you would expect from a guy who is supposed to be one of the top ambassadors for the league and the game. His own parents expected more of him.

Exactly the first thing I thought of, the world junior silver toss. Obviously not as egregious, but he just had a historic run and the league holds him up as the face of it. The shot of his dad cheering and getting ready to take a photo actually made me sad.

The Panthers knew that - they gambled they could tie up the puck by being 5 on 4 in the corner and they were right.

You don't really want all 5 guys fighting for a puck. But all's well that ends well and I'm just glad it's over. Not particularly happy really.
I just would like to see my team playing in more big games.

There's no way the puck was getting out of that crowd/pile.

It's not his fault a bunch of Canadian hockey writer dorks voted him the winner as a consolation prize that no real competitor in their right mind would ever want to accept, let alone make a big deal of. One of many reasons you shouldnt give MVP to a player on the losing team.

He owes it to the game. Show some respect. He owes it to his fans (barf) who have cheered for him since that dark draft day long ago. He owes it to his dad and family who have supported him forever. The look of disappointment on their faces when they realized he was not coming out was painful.
Fully agree with your last sentence.

Sometimes you have to lose before you win. Is that the Oilers this year? I don't think so.
Sometimes you need to change teams to have a shot at winning. Time to move on Draisaitl and McDavid.

Yeah I don't think so either. The Panthers lost last year and you knew this was already a great team and they would be back next year. Now they've won the Cup and might even be back again next year too. That's how good they were against the East.
The Oilers on the other hand-- had a lot go their way in order to get to where they got and to run the Western Conference gauntlet again -- Colorado, Vegas, Dallas perhaps... I'm not sure they can replicate it. But I would think WCF is very possible. As getting out of our division, it's really only up to Vegas if they can stop them.

Woke up this morning to the sun shining, birds chirping, the cat meowing, but I knew it was going to be a good day with an Oilers loss. Wonderful wonderful way to wake up.
What a great game that was. Very tense at the end, but I knew that finally....finally riding the dream twins those minutes would catch up to them. You could see it in the last 90 seconds the energy draining, and it was at that time I knew FLA had the win.
I'll tip my hat to the oilers though. Couldn't have been more wrong about them after the way they started the season. To pull off the winning streaks they had was pretty impressive. Have to respect them for putting on a few streaks like that. To come back down 3-0 the way they did and be on the cusp of the biggest upset in league history, like it or not, is pretty impressive. Hell of a fight they put up. McDavid has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's the best player in the league. No, it's not Mackinnon, Makar or whomever else the E=NG crowd thinks it should be. He's #1 and that is a fact. I can appreciate a skilled player when I see it and McD is without a doubt that guy. I just pray he leaves Edmonton one day so that I can fully appreciate his skillset and cheer for him.
Funny as it is that he didn't come out to get the Conn Smyth, I can understand his decision. The crowd was booing hard anyways and really the only reason he'd come out is to give a photo to his parents. I have never seen him as the kind of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve for his fans and would suck it up for them. Probably saved himself a few memes, given how sad that Giguere photo is. Would have given the trophy to Bobrovsky though. Yes, McD put on a show a few games, but he was a non-factor the past 2 on the scoresheet. Bob showed up BIG in game 7, where it all matters. Hard to not see how he's the winner, but given McD is the golden boy and the CS is often a reputation award, not surprising. Bob should have won it, but he has very easily solidified himself into the HOF with this win. Have liked him since his Blue Jacket days and it's always great to see a veteran goalie win the cup.
Not sure what was going on with the Panthers games 4-6, but thank the gods they won game 7. Can sleep easier and finally get on with summer.

The only thing the Oilers have going for them is that they are probably a near lock for a top 3 spot in the division, because no other team is ready to step up and compete for it.
But they will be going into next season (barring something like a Drai trade), with most of the same team, but no Henrique, Fogele, Janmark, Perry, Brown, etc and replacing those guys with guys on $1million or league min contracts.
They did above expected in the playoffs because their depth stepped up a bit - but they won't have that depth next year - or any year going forward with this core.

Oilers have to spend a 1st to try to get rid of Campbell's contract...
They have $5.4M of dead cap already between bonus overage and Neal's buyout. Buying Campbell out would give them $1.1, $2.3M, and $2.6M for the next three seasons...with the issue being it helps this year but they really can't afford dead cap for 25-26 or 26-27 when the contracts for McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bouchard are up.
