In the final 5 seconds or so McDavid and Ekholm are WIDE open in front of the net

Exactly this. The camera cut to Oilers fans sitting there waiting for him to come out... and he blew them off.
Man up, and go out there for them and your family if not for yourself.
He'll regret it later in life.
It's as close as he's ever going to come to a championship.
Because he's simply a loser.

Yeah with 32 teams its never been harder to win, guys career is half over. This idea that he is guaranteed a cup is false.

I would bet a lot of money that Crosby would have as well, the guy just bleeds hockey and his respect for the game probably wouldn't let him stay in the room

The look of disappointment on the Oilers fans faces when they are elated, but then suddenly disappointed when they realize he isn't coming out is both funny and shameful at the same time.

Just watching some of the post game coverage. Can they seriously let Ron MacLean go already? He was talking about McDavid, then the relatives of Ted Rogers. Put him out to pasture already. Is he really the best host they can find?
So glad ABC made the finals bearable to watch. Put Subban and Messier on Saturday nights. They were really good. Mess was surprisingly unbiased compared to the usual Oilers lovefest.

100% agree. ABC was a godsend. . Actually acknowledged there were two teams playing. I was also very suprised how objective Messier was.

Totally agree on the ABC coverage. Wish someone would have mentioned that a month and a half ago.

Some posters have been railing on the idea of Flames fans on CP hating the oilers more than they like the Flames.
But we haven't had anything Flames related to cheer for for months (pre-TDL when there was the pipe dream they could sneak in). And I think most of us were just sick of this run dragging on and to be able to shift our focus to Flames draft picks and trades. I for one was tired of looking at the #####s on TV every other day and missed the chatter being around Flames related happenings.

I posted this earlier but just so you know, those weren’t just Edmonton “fans”.
Those were McDavids parents and his dad was super pumped to see him win it and got the camera ready for McDavid to come out and accept it.
After a long delay and seemingly puzzled look on their faces you can see him say “wow he’s not coming out” and then “let’s go, let’s get out of here”.
The look on all their faces was sheer disappointment, but the dad especially was hurt you could see it.
Sad, just that much ego and you go and ruin a moment for your family who you know are in attendance.

Just a side note, Kyle Okposo just earned himself a tidy little $500 K bonus for winning the cup as part of his contract he signed with Buffalo. I'm sure the Panthers will be happy to pay that.
Compare that to the Oilers who will pay Connor Brown over $3 million next year to not win a cup this year and not play for them next year. Brilliant.
