But, it's "hard", so I'll just avoid it and people will understand.
No, man up, especially given the spotlight that you've earned but also that the league has given you to be the next generation star.
JS Giguere came out on the road with Devils celebrating a cup to accept the Conn Smythe, do you think he was happy?

I think it shows more leadership to go process the loss with your teammates than to go get your individual achievement award while the opponent is just about ready to take the prize you really want. The league puts a player from the losing team in a tough spot to come out and accept that trophy at that moment. Any player in a leadership position is not going to care one bit about claiming the Conn Smythe just moments after losing the cup. I don't really blame him.
I also think if he did it, people would start criticizing him by saying he's all about the individual accolades.
It wasn't a big deal in my books, I get why he didn't.

Nah man. McDavid lost the biggest game of his career at the cusp of Lord Stanley. He put the Oilers on his back for the past two months and is absolutely gutted. Give the man a break for being a little bit emotional. I am okay with McDavid not coming out.

Well this was supposed to be a quiet night.... Missed the entire game, but I see the stanley cup rewind is on at 1 AM and I happen to have some drinks in the fridge. Looking like a late start at work tomorrow....

He's accepted individual awards at the NHL awards, should he turned those down and stayed in Toronto training or hang out with teammates instead of making the trip to Vegas or whatever?
The league allowed him to design some of the all star skills.
If you want that star treatment, you take the good with the bad.
Him staying in the tunnel for another 2 minutes after handshakes, taking a quick picture and leaving, would show responsibility as a professional and as a star, and class and doing the right thing as a person and role model.
It also wouldn't have changed much with the processing with his teammates, my guess it was a quiet room with the coach saying a few things, but that's it. Him hanging his head there with everyone else for 2 less minutes doesn't make him any less of a captain.
It's the easy way out to avoid hard situations.

If I could suggest to the NHL one change for next year. Don’t bring the Cup on the ice before game 1 or any other game during the final.
The Cup should not be seen until after it’s won.
Was tacky.

Yzerman would have gone out there. Very stoically, but he would have. That's the way you play the game.

He’ll collect it on Thursday right before Kucherov collects the Art Ross and Matthews the Richard.

I am fine with him not going to to get the award, it would be gutting to lose a game 7. I am thankful that he no showed the last two games of the series though.

I would also suggest they don't drag it out so long as well. They stretched out schedule was really annoying IMO. I don't know if it was on purpose or if there were logistical issues, but waiting almost a week before the series started, then having two full days off after travelling was too much. The Cup was awarded 4 days before the draft. Some teams even started making trades which doesn't usually happen in the middle of the finals, because they couldn't wait any longer.

I actually loved it. Show us what they’re fighting for. There’s no tradition about not seeing the cup, only touching it.

I know you know those other things are nothing like the moment of losing game 7 in a stanley cup final. Not even in the same universe of context.
No one will care about him not taking the picture, his role model card will not be revoked. I’m pretty sure his jersey sales will be fine and he’ll get plenty more endorsements and marketing material.
It seems weird that you care so much about McDavids picture with the Conn Smythe.

Yeah, that's a really good point. Hadn't thought of it like that. Compromise being the guy comes out quickly, gives acknowledgement to the oiler fans who spent a fortune coming down, and leaves?
Fair enough to cut the guy a break. Giving the MVP to the losing team is just a bad idea in general, especially in the opponent's barn. He was a no-show the last two games, but the fact is he put the oilers on his back through most of the season and playoffs.
I have some oilers fan friends on social media and some rich edmontonian they knew was chartering a 260,000$ flight to FLA... was looking for about 74 people to join. You do the math how much the clowns paid to be at the game. Not counting tickets and hotel. Maybe their 'saviour' shows them some apprecation for 30 seconds?

If the game was in Edmonton with the cheering and adulation of Oiler fans, I bet he would have gone out to accept it. The fact the crowd was chanting "Bob" at the time was what probably prevented him from going out.
Still, there were Oiler fans in attendance tonight who probably spent their rent money to be there. It's nothing to him, but it probably would have meant something to them at least.

Wow. Watching the NHL rewind and I am glad I couldn't watch live. The last 2 min was nerve wracking- lots of oilers chances. Bob was amazing.

like his own dad you was ready with the camera lol, pretty brutal to be honest. First time in history the winner didn't come out, bad look for the "face of the league"
