That whole goal was a callback to 2006.

Calafiori did his best Cannavaro impression by breaking up the play and rampaging the ball up the field too.

A shame Calafiori will miss the round of 16 due to two yellow cards, he's been fun to watch.

You had the VAR review (with the ref going to the TV to see the handball), plus the penalty, then a long celebration post goal by Croatia.

I would Hazard that right there was about 4 minutes of it if you counted in real time.

which would all be valid if they had applied those same standards to the other games during this tournament. They have added significantly less time than you'd be used to from the PL and such, then randomly changed course today.

Every ref and every game is different though.

This ref gave 3 minutes for Germany - Hungary...which had no VAR, no penalty, 1 second half goal, and 2 yellows in the second half.

The game today had 7 second half yellows, a VAR review, a penalty, a goal and 6 substitution breaks. I would bet if we went and counted the second half time where play was stopped it was close to 8 minutes, was a very choppy second half.

In the end I thought Italy were the better team today and a draw is the least they deserved.

Well boys and girls, 4 games today...which kind of sucks because of the time-matching.

France vs. Poland - I wont be watching this one because France have been underwhelming thus far and Poland are effectively done. So. I dont think its going to be interesting, it might be fun...if Poland quit there might be goals? But I'll watch the replay.

Holland vs. Austria - Now this one will be interesting because theres skin in the game. I support both of these teams so I'm kind of hoping for a draw which should be enough for both of them!

Denmark vs. Serbia - Believe it or not...I think this is going to be the most fun match of the day. They both need this to have any hope so I imagine they're each going to go for it. So...yeah, I'm going to bail on the England match to watch this one.

England vs. Slovenia - A win for Slovenia might see them through but I get the feeling this one might be a cagey affair with some hard tackles, some light to moderate racism and probably not many goals. Although I'll admit, this is a hard one to predict because, realistically, given a proper setup this should be a walk in the park for a proper English XI. We shall see.
