Agree on Buffalo but I think Ottawa could certainly use another RHS D. They look very thin there unless Artem Zub is much better than I think. On the other hand, they have a surplus of LHS D and I’d be pretty surprised if one of Cabot or Chykrun isn’t traded.

It’s also on Ottawa’s best interest, for many reasons a, to make a consecrated effort to get into the playoffs. One of which minimizing the impact of losing that 1st round pick next year or the following as much as possible. They definitely need RHS D and the ones in this draft aren’t like to help them for 2-3 years, probably more.

Andersson is a RHS D that’s helps them immediately.

Who are the top 4 right shot D on either team?

Dahlin, Power, Byram all left shots

Sanderson, Chabot, Chychrun all left shots.

Staios has come as close as possible publicly in Ottawa to saying he wants a top 4 right shot dman. It is the worst kept secret in Ottawa that he is going to try to move one of the three dmen mentioned and come back with an equivalent right shot dman.

They could easily move Chychrun for picks/prospects and then use picks/prospects to get a right shot dman.

With the emergence of Sanderson, do they need Chabot and Chychrun too? All the type you play on the PP, all will make big money but only 2 probably get big PP ice. Doesn't make sense to have these 3.

Probably doesn't make sense they add Rasmus though.

The more I think of it, the more I want Rasmus traded. Love the player, and he remains as the best PP guy on the team right now (among defencemen), but that contract is just too good not to trade, given where the Flames are.

Rasmus on an expiring contract is worth something good

Rasmus on with 2 years remaining on a bargain contract is worth more than something good

That's the logic for me in wanting to trade him.

Leafs closing in on extension for Woll shortly after Markstrom trade to NJD.

That's a hefty price for a guy with consistent injury troubles. But if he stays healthy and continues to get better, it's a heck of a deal.

Chabot, Joseph, and 7th OA for Andersson, Mangiapane and 28th OA.

Have no doubt Chabot and Weegar would be a great pairing. Joseph can be the classic pump and dump for 2026, and we get a shot at another top 10 player. Ottawa does this to make space for Greig’s raise in a year with Mangiapane’s expiring contract and most importantly their RH shot D in Andersson who would be pretty solid with Sanderson.

Based on what people have put out there about how much Flames management likes Rasmus, I think there's zero chance the Flames are the ones who initiate an Andersson trade. If, like the others, he requests a trade out, then the return will be awesome, but short of him asking, he's likely going to be extended.

If Andersson would do a 5 year deal I'd keep him 100%.

6? Probably would still keep him.
7? Getting uncomfortable and looking at trade options.

But if he would do a 5 year and then year to year after that I think it's a no brainer for me.

Considering he was being discussed as the next captain a year ago, I suspect you’re right and the Flames preference will be to keep him. Even if they’re not getting strong commitment feeling from Andersson, I bet they keep him up to the point where they would have to move him if he’s not extended.

It would be pretty surprising if the Flames dealt him this soon. If they do, I bet it’s for 7OA and more.

If both teams were serious about actually trying to win next season then trading the 1st for a piece like Andersson would easily solidify them where they could use it.

Trade Rasmus. His value and contract are going to bring a great return.

We have enough vets for the 3 yr retool. Backlund, Coleman, Kadri, Weegar…. How many do we need.

Take Rasmus and the 28th out, you could probably give up Mangiapane and call it a day. Buffalo can send a thank you card for later as well. They have a plethora of top end prospects, this hardly hurts them and avoids a Skinner buyout. Cap space is king, and we’re helping them on 10% of it with a cap dump acquisition.

That's horrible...like absolutely terrible,

Skinner alone should return you the 11th OV pick with his contract.

So you're trading Rasmus and 28 for Ostlund.
