They were not doing anything that year anyhow and he would have packed the Dome every night. Three, there is nothing to indicate there is bad blood still between the Flames and Theo Fleury. I think his outspokenness on social media is what has prevented his number from going into the rafters yet. As a matter of fact he was just in Calgary for the 89 Cup reunion, before that he was at the Lanny McDonald gala. If he was not so politically unhinged and has the mental issues he clearly does his number would already be retired. Joe Nieuendyk and Al MacInnis are not in the same tier of Flames iconic players as Fleury no matter how much some fans don't like him now. Not close. There are 3 players that are on the top tier, Lanny, Jarome, and Theo. Personally I don't read his tweets or other ramblings because I don't agree with what he says. On the other hand he does do a lot of work and seminars to help victims of sexual abuse. The bottom line is Theo is a Flames legend and that number should be retired. There are multiple players in the past that have done or said worse things than Theo Fleury that have had their teams retire their number and they don't have the excuse of being molested by their coach.

Markstrom made a farewell post on social media to Flames fans. I always appreciate when players or staff do this sort of thing.

Quote:
“Thank you to the city of Calgary and every single person that live there, and on behalf of my family I want to thank you for being a great place to start a family,” Markstrom wrote Sunday on Instagram. “Thank you to the Calgary Flames organization. Thank you to all my teammates that made it special to come to the rink everyday, thank you to the C of Red, don’t know where to begin but the support that you have showed me has been unreal, you make the dome a special place.”

I hope when we look back at this trade, we say that New Jersey dropped the Bahl.

So you want Kylington off the team too? He missed almost two seasons because he was not right in the head.

I think people should be allowed to dislike Theo Fleury for what he's said on social media in the last half dozen years. He chose a platform and chose his remarks.
You need to be companionate about his past, and understanding of the affects that that can have on a human being.
But you're allowed to dislike the guy. And you're allowed to not think his number should be retired or honoured.

Well. Its always nice to have the Devil on our side for a change.

In the Bible, Baal is the name given to several different deities who are designated as false gods or idols. However, it is most often used to describe the specific Canaanite-Phoenician god of fertility and rain. Additionally, Baal is associated with Beezlebub, demons, and the devil.

I absolutely agree. I think it is fine to be on either side of the fence, just something to debate.

This would just create more noise and the opposite of ignore
Unless someone comes in and really wants 14 who cares . And I can’t imagine someone wanting that extra distraction anyways unless an established veteran who has worn the number

All mental health issues need to be treated properly and hopefully anyone with them can get the help they need. When Theo needed the help it wasn't there, who knows how he would have turned out had it been there.
Glad Oliver is on the mend, hope he re signs, if he chooses to move on so be it as long as he is healthy and stays that way. I am happy with the way the organization dealt with him and the situation.
I don't pretend to be in the know what Kylington was going through, so I can't really comment on his situation. I did however read Fleury's book and I can definitely say that is one situation I would never wish on anyone. The trauma he went through, no one should ever have to go through.

Agreed. You should also be allowed to acknowledge his fantastic career and time in Calgary, especially considering the pains of his upbringing.
You're also allowed to like the guy, regardless of his political views.
'member when we could appreciate artists, and people in general regardless of their political views?
I 'member.

Yep, you got to be able to separate the artist from the art. Charles Manson wrote some great tunes!

"Political views" is insufficient to describe Fleury's conspiracy ridden, bigoted, unscientific, grifting behaviour.

Bobby Orr approved the character of a person who openly committed adultery, putting Bobby's character into a clear view. I guess the Bruins should be re-evaluating as well.
