From listening to it and reading a lot between the lines, it seemed as though Conroy has an all around D penciled in. IMO that will most likely be Dickinson, or Silayev. I just don't see Wolf(Zeev) Buium falling to 9.

I for one would be extremely happy with Dickinson. Would still prefer C, but if Lindstrom and Catton are gone, a great D prospect will do just fine.

I don’t believe a word of what he says either way at the moment. Rightly so. Time for misdirection if you are thinking of trading/adding picks. Conroy looked like a little kid trying to not reveal his fib.

I agree because I feel like Conroy's hands are tied here, it's an entertainment business and that is what the fanbase, media, and ownership want. That being said if the Flames passed on Parakh for Tij Iginla I am going to be very pissed off!

I don’t think I get the hype around Parekh. The games I watched this year he’s so prone to turnovers. Super high risk style of play, I don’t feel like he’s gonna translate to the NHL. That’s just my opinion, he could be the next Makar, I just don’t see it.

That's strange because I saw a lot of Parekh this season and I saw the exact opposite. He has the odd turnover like any elite playmaker but the majority of his passes connect.

He led his OHL team to the championship. Despite being a defenseman, he had over 20 more points than the next highest scorer on his team. Then he won the Memorial Cup playing 25-30 minutes per night. Seems like he may have contributed to that.

Under Byron's model, his closest comparable is Bobby Orr. His model goes back around 30 years, but that had to go further for Parekh.

Not his passing per se, just trying to deke guys out at the blue line and stuff like that. Could get better at that for sure and mature, but I just thought he looks like a great junior player. Some of the stuff he pulls I’m not sure will work in the NHL.

With a 13 deep top of draft and a 9th overall pick I can't imagine being pissed off.

I wonder if there is a bit of gamesmanship going on. If he was someone they are hoping to pick at 9th, it might be a good strategy to downplay him as a potential center. Not that other teams don't have their own scouts and opinions, but Conroy probably knows him more than any other GM in the league. If he comes out and says, oh yeah, he is for sure a future center, other GMs might put some stock into it. The last thing he want to do is provide free scouting opinions to other GMs.

I’ve been watching him for the last few years, mostly because a close family friend is very close with his family. No BIAS here but just someone who’s followed significant scouting of his since he was 13.

There’s not a defensive prospect that’s put up the numbers he has in the NHL today. That’s how good he’s been even as a 16 year old rookie, he carried his team never playing a junior game.

It’s pretty remarkable when the only comparison to him is Bobby Orr… the model can’t even find someone relevant in the modern era, that alone is crazy.
The kid is very humble and his family’s story is pretty special.

I don’t see him making it to 9, but if he did this team has easily landed its best defenseman since Al MacInnis. His skating, awareness, puck carrying ability/stick-handling, offensive instinct and shot are elite. For those who seemingly stress about his defensive game look no further than Googlyeye up in Edmonton and the numbers he’s put up while being an absolute train wreck defensively. Ekholm has basically let him flourish as sad as it is to say and Parekh currently looks to eclipse his skill.

I don't think anyone should be taking what Conroy stated about positions or certain prospects as gospel. He isn't going to divulge what way he is picking or thinking. There is no way he is going to go on the record and state what way he (or the Flames) are thinking a week away from the draft.

I think because Conroy is so affable, seems quite open, and sometimes shows vulnerability in interviews, some people confuse that with weakness and a pushover who doesn’t know when to shut up.

I think the reality is, he is quite cagey.

I don’t doubt Parekh is a special talent. That said, I think the breaks may need some pumping when comparing him to Bobby Orr.

If Parekh truly was in the same conversation as Bobby Orr not only would he be the no questions asked first defenseman on the board, he would be no questions asked first overall with a bullet.instead I’ve seen him consistently ranked below Levshunov and frequently behind others at his position.

The common comparisons to John Klinberg or Erik Karlson are probably more accurate, and fair. To be clear, I’d be happy if the Flames picked him.
