I think it gets done sooner than later do not be surprised next weekend, I think Oliver and his agent are factoring in two things loyalty to the Flames but also trying to maximize his value and compared to what open market would offer.

I see 3-4 yrs. with a bump from last contract 3.5 range per annum.

An extension should have been signed before the trade deadline or he should have been traded.

The likely tried but couldn’t, likely due to him not be sure he was coming back to the NHL.

I’m guessing his trade value wasn’t high for that very reason.

Plus I expect Conroy was satisfied that if he decided to come back to the NHL, it was likely to the flames.

I expect he’ll be signed.

That’s silly.

Why would either side, specifically the Flames, want to have signed an extension at that point? Klingon had been back for what, 15 games or so at that time? What term and value would have or should have been placed at that point?

Similarly, what trade value do you think the Flames could have gotten at that point? A 6th round pick? 5th? What team would have offered anything of value at that point and why would the Flames be so eager to move on from a guy that they just supported for a year and a half while he dealt with some mental health issues.

Don’t mean to be rude but your point is completely devoid of any thought or consideration. Easily one of the most poorly thought out things I’ve read on this board in recent memory.

Another thing. Do we really need Kylington anymore? We have a full defence roster now, some interesting offensive talent coming in . Morin, Poirier, Brewski… Kylington is a risky bet to spend a lot of money on?

We have three legitimate NHL defence men including Kylington. Everyone else is a fringe NHLer or solidly bottom pair (Miromanov, Pachal, Hanley). These guys are waiver fodder.

Do the Flames need Kylington? Depends what their ambitions are. If they want to increase their odds of finishing bottom 5, no they don’t need him. If they want some legitimate NHLers on the roster now and hopefully when they trun the corner, yes, they should want to keep him.

As for the young guys, I’d say each Motion snd Breswski need at least one AHL season and Piorier should probably split time this year. In other words, I don’t think any of them are ready for full time NHL duty.

OK, ‘Motion’ and ‘Brsewski’ are just your garden-variety typos. But this one is glorious:

At this point, while he could still sign, I'm guessing he's headed to FA.

My bet is the Flames didn't meet the ask and the Kylington camp will work other teams offers to help get what they want (or closer to it) from Calgary.

I think he should try FA. That's what I would do if I was him.

I think he'll see what's out there but give Calgary the chance to match.

Honestly, if I'm Conroy, I don't offer anything beyond a one year deal. I'd even offer him a one year deal up to $4 million AAV which is way above market, before I give him a multi-year deal.

I predict he goes to free agency at this point at least to see what's offered. (Then maybe he comes back to the table with the Flames anyway)

If he can get more money with a team that could compete for the cup next year, that's a no-brainer move.

The next few seasons with the Flames more than likely aren't going to do much for his perceived value going into his next contract after this one.

He might go to free agency but that is because there is no rush to get a deal done. He will be back.

I like Kylington, but I think we have better options on the backend and I wouldn't be too upset if he moved on. Especially if Kylington and his camp want to get paid like a top 4 D.

IMO, Kylington didn't have chemistry with Andersson or Weegar. He was okay on a pairing with Pachal, but they weren't great from an analytics perspective. I honestly struggle to think of a time when Kylington playing better than a bottom pairing D last season.

Finally, when I'm working with someone consistency beats brilliance every time. And I don't know if Kylington can be relied on to perform the way he did for 70 games with Tanev as his partner. He's a big question mark, we hope might become an asset.

I think he'd do really well with Weegar if given enough time together personally.

He has every right to sign where he wants but can't help but be a bit disappointed that this wasn't an easy signing after the patience and support the org and fans have shown him. Don't think he necessarily owes us anything but an easy show me deal seem to make sense on many levels.

Everyone seemed to do well with Weegar, so you're probably right. Miromanov looked pretty good next to Weegar, so that's probably a pairing I would like to keep at this point. I believe Hanley got to play with Andersson ahead of Kylington towards the end of the year.

It's more likely that Conroy has been busy and both sides have a rough ballpark number and term they're good with and they'll wait until draft/free agency is over to go through the details.
