We’re gonna win the cup within 30 years!!?!?

I will take that. I was expecting within 80 years.

Oilers winning it all is worst case scenario. Only place to go is up. Glory is fleeting and there's still a game 7 in Florida. It may sound insane, but so is cheering for a band of mercenaries because they all wear the same uniform.

I understand people are upset, but there have been good moments. Was anyone else at the arena when they beat Dallas in game 7? That was a crazy atmosphere.

We have a seemingly new direction with Conroy who has made some great trades, considering the hand he was dealt with. With some good drafting, we can be competitive again in 4 or 5 years.

And also, the Oilers have not won the cup yet. You need to win 4 games to win a Stanley Cup. I count 3 right now.

How ironic. This post at a time where we have lots to look forward to and quite soon.

I remember having the same contempt for the Flames in the final couple years of Iggie and Kipper because the GM and org seemed to have no direction with their head in sand. Perhaps age has helped me take it less seriously. I also don't feel that way at all this time with Conny in charge.

Yes it is dark right now at this very moment but it is mostly comical. I think we have a terrific GM who cares dearly about Calgary and making the Flames great again. The org is structured well and is highly respected by players. Our main owner is highly regarded by NHL head office (an insider recently shared that with me). I am more optimistic now than many other moments in the past.

We are one week away from drafting a boatload of intriguing players we can follow for years to come. We have a GM who seems to understand asset management and how a Canadian team must build (through the draft and development not unrestricted free agency).

If you are troll, well please exit stage left. If you were a die hard like many of us. Take a breather over the next week and tune in Friday night. It is going to be fun. As some posters have already said that is what cheering for professional sport teams is supposed to be, fun!

We all have super busy lives. We come here to share in the trials and tribulations of our team. When it sucks we laugh and when it is good we celebrate. Would suggest you keep it that simple.

Flames probably aren't winning the cup in the next 30 years

When I was younger I would let the emotion of the Flames winning/losing and our rivals winning/losing have a legit impact on my mood. It was incredibly prevalent in my 20’s and faded away completely in my 30’s. I look no further than 2011Vs now and how much more I was invested in Vancouver losing. I hate the Oilers and want Florida to win badly but I am not even really watching the games. I was unfortunately in the building when the Oilers eliminated the Flames in 2022. Had that happened 10 years eailer it may have legit ruined my summer.

Watching pro sports should be fun and if it isn’t maybe it is a good time to take a step back. We are in a tough spot right now. The Oilers look like they will be entering a period where they will likely win a cup if not this year very soon with the superstars they have leading their team. Vancouver is a team on the rise and the Flames are so far away from contention. Tough times for Flames fans indeed but it is only a game that we watch on TV and choose to spend money to watch live if we want.

I'm having a hard time understanding how an Oilers Stanley Cup win can affect someone's ability to cheer for the Flames. Its like some of you never lived through the 80's.

Geez. I’ve been a lifelong Stampeders fan…going back to the Larry Robinson field goal into the teeth of a blizzard in 1970. Being a Flames fan has been a walk in the park by comparison. If you’re not in it for the long haul take a hike. It takes fortitude.

Time flies. People don't even realize that Scorp is now in his mid 30s!

If following a sports team makes you miserable then you should absolutely stop following that sports team IMO

Why let something that you have absolutely zero control over dictate your mental state, or mood, etc?

I'm not always on point, but for the most part I enjoy (those brief moments) when my teams are actually good, and try not to let it really bother when they disappoint (which is pretty much all the time haha)

This made me do a double take. Isn't it mid-20s now? Thought he joined at 16?

Anyway, I'm of the under 45 crowd... barely. (42 next month)

Also, if hockey isn't entertaining to you, and it affects you this much, stop watching. I gave up the NHL after the 2019 COL series and don't really miss it. I follow the Flames still vicariously through this site, but haven't watched a game in 5 seasons

Hey, your eyes didn't do anything wrong. If you absolutely must scratch something out, go after the original poster.
