This is the plan, I don't expect the Flames to make any moves for an NHL goalie.

I'm OK with this plan, we don't need Vezina goaltending next year since we aren't (re: shouldn't be) seriously competing.

I am excited to see what a healthy Vladar can do - hopefully he has another level to his game. If so, that would be yet another benefit of the Markstrom trade.

If the Flames are set on taking Iginla I could actually warm up to moving Coronato for the 10th pick as I see those two players as redundant. They could take Iginla and the best defender left on their board.

The problem with that is they can't guarantee Iginla will be there still. Then you have neither.

I would trade Coronato for the 10OA, definitely.
But they (presumably) wanted Coronato + Markstrom for the 10th. In other words, Coronato + the 25 1st, for the 10th. That is a bad trade.

I'm a little surprised we didn't end up with Jake Allen after that trade. Glad we didn't.
If Vladar ends up not recovering properly from surgery, then we can figure out something. Maybe 24 year old Ignatjew (allsvanken goalie of the year and MVP finalist in that league) has some Rittich to him.

I think the flames see vladar as more than most. If he can raise his stock to capable starter thats another trade chip.

Vladar at his best is a 1B goalie, especially when he goes on streaks. I think that's plenty serviceable, especially since Wolf is likely going to have a streaky season as he gets more exposed to the pro game. I find he also is up for starter duties most nights he's called in, and is a workhorse when needed.
That said, we should be prepared for "our goalies are crap" stretches next season, and just bite our lips and endure it.

My preference would be to run a Vladar/Wolf tandem with fairly evenly split games. Gets them both playing regularly, and shares the pressure equally.
I am not ready to discount Vladar yet. Sutter rode Markstrom hard (too hard IMO), with Vladar's injury, and trying to get Wolf some games in last season, I think it was hard for Vladar to shine.
Maybe Vladar is something. Maybe he is not. I have my own suspicions on where he leans, but I would like to see a fairly even split coming up, and see what happens. What would be the worst outcome? Flames don't make the playoffs? It wouldn't shock me if Vladar ends up being a legitimately good starter as well as Wolf. That would be a great problem to have at the deadline.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Ignatjew up for a couple of games as well if he ends up playing well in the AHL. He is 24 already, with pro experience.

I am still high on Coronato. Iginla right now is projecting himself as a center.
Even if Iginla turns into a winger having 2 players in the top 6 who can put the puck in the net is huge.
We are seeing it first hand with Florida right now. Reinhart 57 goals regular season, a complete ghost these playoffs. No one is really picking up the slack and scoring that big goal, they are pretty much counting on a journeymen in Rodrigues at the moment.

Sounds easy. Do you think lots of UFAs you can deal for a 2nd or 3rd rounder at the deadline will be lining up to sign one-year deals this summer?

In what world is having both a LS winger and RS winger redundant?
We have 4 top 6 winger spots, 6 top 9 winger spots…
Having Iginla does not make Coronato redundant.

The part I wonder about is because Vladar is kind of a tweener himself, and Wolf is new to the show, who is there to show Wolf the ropes, teach him what it takes to make it as a goalie in the NHL?

Well Markstrom was there for that last season. Vladar has played a number of NHL seasons now, though granted not as a starter.
But there's also other teams that do just fine with young goalies without a veteran backup.
And it's not like we're counting on Wolf to carry us to the cup next season, it'll take time for him to continue to develop, and we definitely have time for the team to improve in front of him. Hopefully he's mentally strong and a more losses than wins year (years) doesn't rattle him.

Well for starters (ha!), I’d say the goaltending coach and possibly Sigalet as well. Why does a young goalie need to be mentored by the other goalie? When did this become a thing? Or is it even a thing?
Goalies are voodoo so I know next to nothing about goalie development personally

Agreed, I think this is wishful thinking. More likely to get 4th's than 2nds for these types of moves.
I'd like to see a move or 2 where we trade short term value contracts for young RFA's that we can sign now for a higher cap hit but will be more likely to be a value contract in a couple years and are more age appropriate.
Necas for Rasmus and Mangiapane type moves where we get the younger player and maybe a pick in the deal too.
Then take short term bad contracts back from teams and hope the player you get has a bounce back season and can be flipped.
Barclay Goodrow was recent example where we could get an asset with salary retained after a bounce back year. Unfortunately, he did not make it past the 1st waiver wire team
Conroy can easily be at the bottom but start planning top 6 pieces that will be quality players in a couple years when we have high end talent through the draft.

I've heard (over beers with a few Calgary media people) the Flames are likely to make a push to bring Monahan back.
