They just play so slowly... you've got a great 11 from by far the best fastest, most physical league in the world and they play like Italy, sloooow in the counter, lots of lateral and backwards passes, just makes no sense with the personnel they have. Get someone like Wharton on next game who actually makes progressive passes and try to unlock Saka/Palmer/Foden with some speed. Watkins Bowen and Eze have come on with fresh legs and had none of the ball at all, their passing is so negative

I noticed that at the Euros they are back to the conventional 3-4 minutes of added time, unlike the 10-12 min for the Qatar World Cup.

What's the dealio here?

The Danes really controlled this game

England very unimpressive again. Easily could have lost this one

Lucky for them this group is weak

England involved in probably the two worst matches in the tournament, Osama bin Southgate is not seeing heaven.

the setup in general just makes no sense. They keep talking about Foden playing in the wrong position, yet it has nothing to do with the position itself, but everything with style. At City, you have 75+ percent of possession every game ... look at what they do under Southgate, no wonder Foden struggles.

It's just baffling. Having THAT amount of talent in the squad, it's a real achievement to be this bad.

I dont know. I'm enjoying it.

Despite the fact that I think a Rodeo Clown could get better results out of this team.

Yeah they just seem so conservative both in terms of personnel and strategy. They need a better more progressive CM to partner with Bellingham ahead of Rice and instructions to play forward. Wharton will be that guy but I don't know if he's ready yet - wouldn't mind seeing them try, his progressive passing is incredible for his age. Even if it's not him, TAA is brutal in that position and Gallagher has very poor passing, he runs around like a chicken with its head cut off which is fine for a lower table team looking to counter and sit deep, but neither is the answer in the engine room of a ferrari.

They hold the ball, go backwards constantly and you can tell the other team has instructions to press and take advantage of their inability/unwillingness to attack. Eze and Bowen had the ball in an attacking position facing goal once each in 20 minutes to end the game. You bring on that kind of firepower and two guys who can absolutely shred the best defenses in the world with fresh legs and fiddle around with the ball in your backline the whole time, hard to watch.

The most exciting thing about watching a Gareth Southgate coached match is seeing how much the grass grows.

It's so great. How do you leave Palmer on the bench for those two games? How do you leave Grealish and Maddison out of the squad? On paper that team should be in the mix for the win, but Southgate is just so negative.

now that I absolutely agreed with. They'd be redundant in this squad.

Madison wouldn't.
They're playing TAA in mid, when someone like Madison could actually control possession and distribute attacks.
I think the biggest thing missing is a KDB/Odegaard type #10 and Madison could offer that.

I feel similarly about Grealish, and I think he would've been useful off the bench today. But really...they have several issues!
