All I can get

Oliver Kylington has already publicly expressed personal gratitude for the assistance of both the Flames organization and the league's program.
He "owes" nothing beyond that.
If he walks away from the team, the league or the sport itself I wouldn't hold it against him.
That said, I hope he does stick around.

Exactly. I was going to say the same thing. Hard to say the flames weren’t loyal to him. I know there’s no loyalty in pro sports. But I think it’s probably time for Kylington to show some in return.

I wouldn't be too upset if he decided to sign with a different team. If he's going to be happier playing for a different team, and have a better mental health for it, then he should go for it. It definitely beats having a guy stick around and be miserable.
Hopefully this is done soon, and everyone is happy with the new contract.

No, if he plays again, he owes the team if they offer him a fair deal.
I understand if Conroy lowballed him

No he doesn't. This is garbage. He owes them nothing.
What Kylington went through was no different than losing time to a physical injury.

Well, legally he owes them nothing
But morally, it sucks if he bolts for nicer place like Tkachuk . My understanding was the Flames went extra for him during his recovery. I could be wrong
People #### on Tkachuk and Gaudreau for less
That said the Flames have to offer him a fair and competitive deal. No discount.

He didn’t look out of place when he returned, would be nice to lock em up long term. A Rasmus type contract be enough to have em stick around?

I think this one is actually tougher than a physical injury in regards to the next contract. Monahan might get a longer term deal after his last season but he had to sign short term deals because of his injuries. Kylington's is much harder to define from a risk perspective. Much harder to define if his mental health is in a spot where he will play out his contract.
I won't blame him if he signs long term with another team because the Flames wanted a short term deal. I also wouldn't blame the Flames for not wanting to go long term.

I agree that short term makes sense. One year doesn't accomplish anything though, I think it needs to be 2, and 3 would be fine also.
Hard to give him a raise when he played 33 out of 162 games on his last contract. At the same time, he played well in those games so I don't think you look to reduce his pay.
I think it should be 2 years, in the $2.5 to $2.75M per year area.
If he performs well over those 2 years, THEN he deserves to get paid.

Yup, but if some other team offers him term then he should take it.

Mental illness is not transactional. There's no quid quo-pro here. If he can find a more supporting environment elsewhere, then that will be the determining factor.

That would be what I would expect. I don't think a raise of any significance is in the cards - calgary may be hesitant to go more than a year until he proves he's able to play another season.

Because not all people think like that. Yet. And sounds like some teams don't either.
Some folks don't equate physical vs mental still.

It sounds like the Flames were very supportive of him personally. They were in their public statements at least. As far as paying him while he was out, they didn’t really have much choice.
If Kylington things they went above and beyond in supporting him, then yeah I suppose you hope there would be some loyalty. But who really is able to evaluate how the Flames treated him other than the player himself?

I think 4x4 is completely fair for Shilly. He can then earn a good retirement contract after.

Based on what? He has played 201 NHL games, which isn't even a full ELC contract.

Call it future protection. 4 years isn't too long and 4m isn't a big contract for aobile d man. If things don't pan out in CGY, that's a good contract for a team to take a flyer on.

Right or wrong they’re not the same when it comes to injuries and hockey. A broken arm heals, you can see that it’s healed and fixed. Mental health is a far more nebulous thing it’s not like you can look and go “yup all good now!”
Obviously it’s treated the same way for LTIR and the such but I don’t have an issue if the team is a bit more hesitant to lock him in long term. That’s human nature.
