It was one PO performance - the year before he signed. 8 goals and 13 points in 20 games on the third line. People thought for some reason he’d blow up with more ice time.

You know, Conroy still hasn't gone out and acquired his primary target yet in that of a 23 or younger Center.
Kind of want to build a list of them that fit the bill.
Anton Lundell
Shane Wright
Trevor Zegras
Dylan Cozens
Kent Johnson
Cole Sillinger
Danila Yurov
Connor Geekie
Nate Danielson
Marco Kasper
Can Conny swing for one of those or any other?

If Conroy can grab Geekie I think we would definitely be drafting a defender at the draft

Don’t draft for need, draft for BPA. This isn’t the NFL

You know, I heard James Neal drives a Mercedes Benz. The Flames would be outright foolish to sign another player who drives a Mercedes!

The Flames should not sign DeBrusk because they already have too many wingers and not enough spots.

I'd love to continue the purge + take on bad contracts for nice pieces. We have so much cap room which is the most valuable asset in sports.

I suspect if he offers Sillinger a one year 4.5 million dollar contract he could get him for the Flames 2025 2nd round pick. Could try the same move with Lundell who is probably better but it definitely has a more potential adverse affect on the Flames 2025 1st rounder.

Trade someone for an asset, sign Debrusk for no asset cost

I think it makes sense if the Flames move Mangiapanne, which sounds like that is only a matter of time.
Let’s say the Flames know they are going to sign Debrusk (yes, tampering), are they motivated to trade Mangiapane at the draft? Let’s say they retain and move him for a pick. If Buffalo is planning on buying out Skinner, might they be willing to give up a 2nd or a 3rd and a 5th? Basically, the Flames move one vet winger out who no longer wants to be here, replace him with another who does, and add a pick or two while they’re at it. Believe Warrener was saying Mangiapanne’s name has come up in Buffalo and also believe Mangiapanne and Couzin’s had some decent chemistry at the Worlds.
All that being said, I think it’s also likely that Kuzmenko is moved at some point this season too and if Sharagovich isn’t resigned, he will also be moved. It also wouldn’t be surprising if teams are asking about Coleman.
In other words, I think there’s going to be a spot for a player like Debrusk. If rumors are true that he’s bought a house here and would like to play for the Flames, it’s not a bad idea to entertain it. I think the Flames have an issue of perception around the league and they should consider, strongly, players who want to play for them especially ones over the next 3 to 4 years during the rebuild/retool. To be clear, I’m not suggesting the Flames overpay though.

Exactly right and I’m surprised so many people throw out the idea of signing Debrusk because we have “too many wingers”
If Debrusk is a player that wants to be here, and he’s an upgrade on several of the Flames wingers (which he is), then it makes a lot of sense to sign the player that wants to be a flame regardless of where the Flames are relative to contending.
Trade Mang for an asset, trade another winger too to make sure there is room for Coronato.
There is no logical reason to avoid signing a good player that wants to be here (assuming he does)

Heck, Pospisil keeps saying he wants to play centre. Give him his wish and the logjam on the wings is less of a worry.
I mean, what's he going to do? Suck at centre and make the team lose games they need to lose anyway?

Agreed!
I think kuzmenko, sharangovich, Mangiapane, and someone could make some obscene deal for Coleman. Utah has a plethora of picks this year and and next as well as a pile of young players.

Magipagne seems to scream one of those wingers penguins pick up and produces around 25 goals a year in top 6.

I really hope all these first-round picks don’t start burning a hole in Conny’s pocket. Make the picks Conny!!! Don’t trade them for “now” pieces!

6 first rounders in the next three years, all over the first round, could really put an end to the debate around whether Button and Calgary’s amateur scouting staff are good or not. Would be nice for them to make those picks at least for that, if not to properly do this rebuild.

Reasons I wouldn't want the Flames to sign DeBrusk: - He shoots left, and we only have 1 right shot(Kuzmenko) in the top 9
- As a player with a big ticket, he would take a spot away from a prospect in the top 9, and on the PP... probably for the next 3+ years.
- DeBrusk is more of what we already have in Mangiapane, and Coleman. A dependable 40-55P winger, that has about 30P 5on5.
Obviously, if the Flames sign him, then I would cheer for the guy. The same way I did with Coleman, Frolik, Versteeg, and to a lesser extant Neal, and Brouwer.
