Let's not forget everyone thought Miramanov was simply a throw in.
And yet he, in a small sample size, showed he was not.
Bahl is 23. Got his first real minutes in NJ and was one of their better Defensive d players.
Look at his stats 5v5. He was solid if not great. You take that at 23 and build on it.

Call me crazy but I think Sharangovich would fetch a 1st round pick if traded today....so Toffoli kinda did get a 1st.

That's what changes the fortunes.

The Flames are also a team full of kids now. They need a few large bodies to make sure other teams don't take liberties with them.

A top 10 pick for Markstrom always seemed like a pipe dream to me. All in all I think this is a pretty good return.

Could this be cleaned up to if Flames 2025 is 2-32, then Montreal gets Calgary's pick?

lol I am actually more confused about the conditions now. Maybe it is if the Panthers win the lottery otherwise there wouldn't be anything about Montreal getting the better of the Flames and Florida non top ten picks.

What if prospects are included? I assume there might be a ton of competition in the pre-season or some of these players may be moved out.

I need new glasses - I saw Kevin Dahl instead of Bahl and thought he'd retired decades ago

So as part of the retool effort and trying to stay competitive now Conroy has accumulated
3 first round picks
1 second round pick
3 third round picks
1 fourth round pick
1 fifth round pick
A 20 year old dman at the time of the trade
A 19 year old dman at the time of the trade
A 21 year old dman at the time of the trade
A 23 year old dman
A 25 year old winger
A 26 year old dman
A 27 year old forward at the time of the trade
13 assets under the age of 24 by my count and 3 assets older than 24.

And a buttload of cap space so he can spend like a crazy person on July 1.

When I see that Written down it doesn't look that bad... I mean we have three T4 Defensmen in that list (Kylington was in our T4 before his mental health problems) + Bahl and Miromanov. We lack a true #1D in there and still need to see if Kylington get get back to where he was pre-struggles (and sans Tanev which is important).

A 1st round pick and a decent young, controllable defenseman seems pretty good for a 35 year old goaltender who re-built his value last season.
This is great asset management. We have 6 first round picks in the next 3 years.
If the Flames really want to grab another top 10 pick this year, they have the currency to do so.
|
Yeah especially with a goaltender with a full non movement clause and the ability to say no to every team but one (or all teams).
I said it well before this went down.
10 overall is the home run return.
25th 1st is the silver medal return.
Moving Markstrom period was already a good new story for where this team needs to go.
