Got to be one of the better free agent signings, turning nothing into a 1st and a young defender.
Hope the best for Markstrom but selfishly hope he's not the answer so the pick is strong. With Flames luck it will be 32nd overall though...

We were getting called negative and wanting to wallow in Flames misery for suggesting that the 10th OA made no sense and everyone's expectations were out of whack for a Markstrom return, lol. 2025 1st and a roster player was likely what was being worked on in March and stayed close to that return today.

Actually it did not, it matched up close to what I heard at the deadline instead. What I heard was not this deal. I have said before not everything I report is going to be right, they are rumours. Some people don't get that though and would rather throw mud at me.

I don't see who people can be mad about the return. The 10th was never going to be on the table for Markstrom. Free agent to cap dump to a 1st and a roster player. Also I don't have to worry about the Flames trying to be competitive instead of bottoming out. Win-win-win
|

It's really too bad the Flames didn't weaponize retention here to maximize the return a little more. A 2025 1st seems OK, top 10 protection kind of sucks. Basically we're looking at another B level prospect rather than a cornerstone again.
*edit, nevermind, did retain and still only got the later future 1st*
