I thought even before his playoffs he was going to get 7x7. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets better

Prior to Old Don getting into CBJ, I would of said it was almost a no brainer but I think they will ride out the cap floor for another year or two.

Too much risk, and you can't deal him if you're in the hunt.
It's new deal by September or he's traded.

Yup, like what happened here with Gaudreau. He should have been traded before his last season in Calgary even started.
I could see the Oilers just saying screw it though and going all in one more time with Draisaitl and McDavid even if it means risking losing him for nothing. The Oilers organization has no qualms about bottoming out and it's not too often you get a one-two punch like McDavid and Draisaitl.
I personally don't believe that they are actively discussing a contract right in the middle of the SCFs though. He can't even sign anything until July 1st and they have all summer. It's not urgent enough to warrant the distraction right now. They can certainly wait a week or two.

I would be shocked if the Devils are interested in Magniapagne. He would effectively be a rental and the Devils would have to hope he's going to have a bounce back season going into a contract year.
That's not how you build a playoff team.
The 41st pick needs to be replaced with the 28th and then they maybe do this.

Meh, it's not like Draisatl is negotiating. He probably just told his agent to go ahead and see what the Oilers were thinking, and it's entirely possible he wanted to see if they could go far before giving that green light.

And the last thing CP needs is another Oiler thread.

The difference between the Flames and Oilers situation is the Oilers are in the Stanley Cup Finals. The goal is to win a cup and I don't see a trade happening where a team gives up enough great players now to improve the Oilers in a Leon trade. Likely picks and prospects with a top player coming back to Edmonton. If you don't improve now, kiss McDavid goodbye.
Odds the Oilers are a cup contender after the McDavid and Leon era are slim, why waste a chance just because it is bad asset management. They won't.
If Leon is not signed, I would bet he will be with the Oilers next year, unless he comes out and say 100% he wants out.

Devils are thin on depth a forward though. I could see them having some value in Mangiapane.
Cap is going up, Mangiapane probably isn't getting a raise, and they have some very good contracts move forward. Need to improve the depth

Jackets will be interesting for sure. You know it has to be enticing for them to overpay Lindholm to try and get Gaudreau going.
I still think he ends up with the Bruins though.

I think he has to submit a 10 team trade list.
It would just turn into the Tkachuk deal a year early. He picks teams and Edmonton negotiates a package, his agent talks extension.

Yeah, but he can manipulate the list into a full NTC, is what posters are getting at. He lists teams that have no need of him or can't afford him.

Right, but Tkachuk wanted to be traded. What if Leon doesn't?

I agree they need to add a scoring winger. I think they can do better than Mangiapane. They should also be in the market for a veteran LD, someone like Dillon to play with Nemec.

Jackets should be all over Lindholm.
The only forward signed for over two years is Gaudreau.
They have the prospects to build around and a line of Gaudreau-Lindholm isn't a bad vet combo to go forward with.

The Flames just lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk wanted out. Deal was done after that.
Leon could easily not sign but not ask the team for a trade either. He could just want to see what Mcdavid does or see what his option are the next off season.
If he does not request a trade, the situation is much different than the Tkachuk situation and it's going to be a much harder decision for the Oilers to trade him.

For sure.
The Hanifin maneuver is a thing.
I'm just thinking there may be a world where he doesn't want to commit to Edmonton long term. Oilers don't want to risk losing him and Draisaitl prefers to sign long term now.

Yup, the list of teams he wants to go and can afford him is small. I think he will get a slightly better than typical UFA return but it won't be anything that it worth trading him from Edmonton's perspective and they will be better off trying to go on one last run with him.

I could see Florida having interest in Lindholm if Reinhart prices himself out of town. Actually think he’d be a good fit beside Barkov. Or with Bennett and Tkachuk.
