From McKeen's mock draft (they have us taking Iggy at 9)...

Quote:
29. CALGARY FLAMES (VIA VANCOUVER CANUCKS) – COLE BEAUDOIN – C – BARRIE (OHL)
After drafting Iginla early, the Flames opt for a different kind of forward late in the first. Beaudoin projects as the kind of guy you win in the playoffs with. He brings versatility. He brings leadership. He brings consistency. He is an intelligent playmaker and can excel as a middle six complementary piece. Just seems very likely that at least one NHL team likes his intangibles enough to draft him in the first.
What's the verdict? They had me at "kind of guy you win in the playoffs with," but I don't know much about him.

Gotta think Parekh doesnt make it past Ottawa at 7, but with reports they like Tij there, maybe he does end up sliding? Would love that pick

A bit more context

Each of their 2 season leading up to the draft, combined:

Silayev
MHL (Jr) - 68GP 2G 11A 13PTS +4
International (U17) - 8GP 0G 0A 0PTS +1
KHL - 68GP 3G 10A 13PTS -8

Kucherov
MHL (Jr) - 109GP 61G 66A 127PTS +71
International (U18) - 7GP 11G 10A 21PTS +10
KHL - 9GP 0G 2A 2PTS -3

I think there's a pretty obvious reason why Silayev was able to skate with men at the age of 17, while Kucherov was not.

How many selections does Ottawa get to make at 7? I've heard atleast 3 guys now that aren't making it past Ottawa.

I would be happy with that pick, I think he projects as a #2 C.

The way I see it playing out has them interested in Buium, Parekh, and Tij. I think Seattle likes Buium and Dickinson. And Utah feels like they'll go Buium. Call it a hunch but thats what I see. So based on that, Parekh or Tij would be likely available at 9

At 29 it's fine... but I think putting "kind of guy you win in the playoffs with" is putting the cart way in front of the horse at this point thou.

Just about every team in the top 9 seems to have 4-5 guys that wont get past them lol. We've seen posts about;

MTL
OTT
CBJ

I think it just goes to show you that after #2 it opens wide up.

The worst part of Draft Season is falling for a player, and having them end up with a team you hate.

I really have liked Lindstrom through this whole process, and seeing him go to Montreal is going to be painful.

I have been on the Bedouin train for a while with the van pick. Dont think he makes it to the second round or if he does not much past the first couple of picks.

Great draft would be catton, Bedouin. Freij or brunicke with our first second and bednarik with our lower but i have been seeing bednarik near the bottom of the first top of second lately. Or maybe peterson or leternoeu drops to our second second.

Get a second and it could be catton, yak, Bedouin, freij/brunicke, bednarik in the first two rounds.

Looks like a pretty dam good draft if you ask me.

Didnt realize until I watched Cattons Combine interview that him and Tij are so close. Now I'm dreaming that we get 10th from NJ and can grab Tij and Catton. Develop them together like we shouldve done with Bennett and Tkachuk

That would be amazing. One of the best playmakers from the draft with one of the best goal scorers.

That's a lot of teams that are reportedly willing to trade their top 15~ pick.

Ottawa, Utah, Buffalo, Jersey, Montreal...

Mostly teams that have been "rebuilding" for quite a while now and keep picking in the top 10 year after year.

Parekh at 9 is eerily similar to Quinn Hughes at 9.

At this point I'm happy with any result barring some crazy off the board reach, just please for the love of all that is good do not trade up using that 9th overall pick.

Q-Hughes went 7th; but I agree and would love Parekh at 9.
Fascinated to see how it all unfolds.

Parekh may not make it to the Flames. Scott Wheeler asked a group of NHL scouts from teams not picking in the top half of the draft to rank the top 6 defensemen and several scouts were high on Parekh ranking him first.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/555...-scout-survey/

Quote:
Levshunov received the majority of votes as the best D in the class and Yakemchuk received the majority of votes as the sixth D in the group. But it wasn’t unanimous, with Parekh and Silayev also receiving votes at No. 1, and Dickinson also receiving votes at No. 6. Buium was the only D not to garner a vote in either of the two categories, a testament to the view that while he may not be seen as the top prospect in the group, scouts are high on him.
It's also clear that NHL scouts are maybe not as high on Yakemchuk as the draft pundits as almost all of them had him as their last ranked of the big 6 defensemen. It's a really good article as the Athletic has really knocked it out of the part this year with their draft coverage.

I feel like we're going to be talking about this cohort of defencemen for years to come. Maybe even over the entire course of their careers, long or short, they'll be compared to one another. It'll be interesting to see who becomes the all-star and who becomes the bottom pairing (or worse) guy.

I have both Parekh and Silayev outside of my top 10 personally, but I would not be overly upset if we ended up with either. I no doubt see the intrigue and upside with both guys, but I question the translatability of certain aspects of their games in ways I simply don't with other guys.
