If I was McDavid I would say no to it. No non-goalie on the losing team has won the award. Sure he had a great 3 rounds but has been pretty invisible in the Final, other than game 4.

Ya I really dislike how the Lombardi trophy is awarded with the owners’ family up on a stage like royalty.

If you were McDavid you wouldn't say no. You'd ask the NHL to amend it's rules so you could win it annually; even if not in the finals...or even the playoffs.

Isn't whatever the World *cough*American*cough* Series trophy is called awarded to the owner too? Or the manager or someone?

Edit: (The Commissioner's Trophy) is presented to the owners of the winning team by the Commissioner of Baseball, hence its name. The trophy is not named after anyone in particular, unlike the Stanley Cup (NHL) and the Vince Lombardi Trophy (NFL).

So, out of the four major sports leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL), the NHL is the only one that awards the championship trophy to the captain (or any player at all) on the winning team.
