Friedman and Marek talking about McDavid winning the Conn Smythe even if they lose the series on 32 thoughts, as long as Edmonton wins Game 5.
If I was McDavid I would say no to it. No non-goalie on the losing team has won the award. Sure he had a great 3 rounds but has been pretty invisible in the Final, other than game 4.

Reggie Leach, 1976 with 19 goals…

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking of someone else. But I wouldn’t want to be on the ice waiting for that trophy when the other team is waiting for the big prize.
Friedman gets a vote. I’m sure the Canadian media will be trying their hardest to get him the Conn Smythe.
Friedman will lobby to have it renamed the McSmythe
This would be one of the dumbest votes ever, and I cheer for the oilers. Only scenario is he drags the oilers to game 7, gets about 10 more points in the process and loses in triple ot on a shot from the red line. And even then id say no f’ing way.

If you were McDavid you wouldn't say no. You'd ask the NHL to amend it's rules so you could win it annually; even if not in the finals...or even the playoffs.

You would but he won't, he is all about McDavid and he wants to win all the individual awards available.
Isn't whatever the World *cough*American*cough* Series trophy is called awarded to the owner too? Or the manager or someone?
Edit: (The Commissioner's Trophy) is presented to the owners of the winning team by the Commissioner of Baseball, hence its name. The trophy is not named after anyone in particular, unlike the Stanley Cup (NHL) and the Vince Lombardi Trophy (NFL).
So, out of the four major sports leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL), the NHL is the only one that awards the championship trophy to the captain (or any player at all) on the winning team.

The NBA trophy is named the Larry Obrien after a commissioner as well and the MVP is named after Bill Russell.
