Holy smokes, lots of people who grew up in Bonavista here! I grew up there as well, I go to school in Vic now, but I still come back here for the summers. Bonavista is a really nice community... definately has character. The lake is really nice, plenty of shopping and ammenities, and schools. I was in french immersion so I never went to school in Bonavista, but I believe Sam Livingston now offers french. Its a good place for families, thats for sure.

Oh, just wanted to add, I work downtown, and I really don't have much of a problem driving down there in the mornings from Bonavista. I take Blackfoot, and make it downtown in about 20 mins. I don't consider that too bad!

The french immersion at Sam Livinigston is one of the selling points for me. I am concerned about there not being many kids in the area anymore. Do you go through Inglewood after taking Blackfoot downtown?

No, I get off Blackfoot onto Highfield Road, and then cut across to McLeod, right by Earlton Station.
And if you're considering putting your kids into french immersion, DO IT. I'm very glad my parents put me in it. It really paid off, and now I'm actually majoring in French.

My wife grew up in Bonivista and I have nothing but good things to say about the community (Spent a lot of time there). People are great, alley system is great, close to everything, very mature lots, great lake facilities.
Kind of funny seeing so many people from that area. I wonder if any of you were those infamous bonavista ba$tards that ran around.

Girlfriend lives in bonavista, as do some relatives; its a great community. Lake is awesome year round (tennis, swimming, boats, pond hockey, family skating).
Plus the promenade(small strip mall), is excellent to have close by for when you need a little something for dinner (but daaaaaang, that is a small safeway). Luckily there is tons of large centres close by (Southcentre, Deer Run).
And as mentioned, its not that bad of a drive to downtown and c-train is close.

LOL......
Those alleys were awesome. I could travel the entire community through backalleys. It was really quite cool as a kid the way they all connected and where they took you.
If I could afford a nice place in Bonavista I would move there in a second. I grew up there and my Mom still lives there. Can't say enough good things about it.
I can see why there aren't many kids there anymore. Just go through this thread. All of us in this generation that grew up there loved it but very few of us can afford $750k or more on a nice place in that area. We have to buy in the newer more affordable neighbourhoods and now that we are having kids these are going to be the kid friendly or at least kid populated areas.
I loved that Lake so much we decided to move to Auburn Bay. I know it doesn't hold a candle to Bonavista but for now it will have to do. I really want my kids to have access to a lake like I did when I was growing up.
If you can get in there make the move. You will love it especially if you have kids.
The only downfall on Bonavista is that the houses there were built in the 60's and 70's. Many of them are in need of a renovation and perhaps some structural upgrading. But if you can find a nice place then I would be all over it. Plus the lots there a big as well. You have a decent size yard and aren't 5 feet from your neighbor.

Grew up on Lake Sylvan Close in Bonavista Downs. Bonavista is a nice area. Prototypical mature suburbia...and has been for, like, 30 years. Great trees, road layout, access to services.

I live in Acadia, about 5 mins away, but one of my best friends lived in Bonavista, so I spent lots of time there. Nice community, great perks, and great athletics programs for kids.
I am usually spotted at the Bonavista Mall Brewsters for Sattelite Flames games......

Also spent years in Lake Bonavista as a child. A long time ago though, I remember watching Southcenter being built! Went to Sam Livingstone, and have very fond memories of summers spent at the lake. If you have children it would be a great place to live.

I also grew up in Lake Bonavista. It is a great community and not a bad location. The only problems might be that a lot of the houses are getting to the age where they might need some significant work, so you may have to be prepared to spend money on some renovations unless the previous owner has already fixed everything, and the house prices are high compared to newer communities. If neither of those is a problem for you, then I'd recommend the area.

That's what I'm fighting with; do I spenf 3/4 of a million on an old place that is incredible and outdated or a new place that has everthing you could ever want in a home, but lacks everthing you really want inside. ??

Maybe I'm just biased because I live in Bonavista, but I've gotta say... if you have the money, its worth it to buy in a community that has been around for a while, and has some character. You may have to spend money along the way updating/renovating, but if you're in the financial position where you can do it, its worth it!

Big, shady trees. Long driveways. Huge lots. High taxes. MILFS galore.
