Nah. Him signing here means the rebuild is over and the Flames will get the cup

4th period is reporting Utah is willing to move 6th overall. I would think they want an early to mid20’s long term piece they could acquire.

#### it get the whole top 12... lol
This has to be the most movement advertized in the top 10 ever... 6, 7, 10 and 11 all stating publicly they'd trade the pick. Is this an indictment of the strength of the class? I think it is... Fascinating anyways.

It's a weak draft year even though the top 30 seem pretty good and grouped close together than normal.
Usually there's lots of movement in these but not really in the top 10.

Leafs, Marner. Then Leafs flip that pick for an asset.

Has the 4th period ever broken anything?

Marner isn’t getting the 6th overall back even if he agreed to waive

In a poorer draft year? I'd be all over that if I were a team looking for a playmaker.

Not a weak draft at the top and UFAs never return that kind of value.

In a S&T (was what I was thinking). I haven't heard anything about this being a strong draft aside from Celebrini. Past him seems to be a guess as to who will be going in what order.

100 point forwards are probably worth a 6th overall pick. The chances that the 6th overall is as good, let alone better than Marner, have to be approaching zero.

Doesn’t matter, if that logic applied then Lindholm/Hanifin would have returned much higher picks. Feel free to find all the trades where an UFA returned a top ten pick even with a contract shortly after. Utah wouldn’t need to put up the 6th overall to get the privilege of signing Marner to a huge contract especially when the list of teams Marner would waive for and can afford his cap hit is probably two or three.
Would be a different story if Marner had a couple years left on his contract.

I don't think it's a weak draft, especially in the top 10. But there are a lot of teams there who need to show some progression, and already have multiple top 10 picks (Ottawa, Arizona, New Jersey, Buffalo). For them an NHL player that can help them make that progression is probably much more value than a prospect who might be a couple of years away, and isn't a sure thing, either.

We've now signed some players based on being a contender like Markstrom, Kadri, Hubey, Coleman and now I guess Marky is voting to go. This will be a tough spin for management and likely Kadri/Coleman could also demand trades in coming years, hopefully they are productive enough that teams want them and they can be moved. Flames managements actions so far is "rebuilding" and not retooling but thats the only choice at the TDL as teams won't part with good young bodies, the true direction should become pretty obvious for us over the next 3 months...fingers crossed its a rebuild and one that targets being a bubble team in 2027/28 in that new arena.

Everyone talking about rebuilding or retooling or whatever
We aren’t anywhere near done tearing down yet
Still a long way to go until that phase is complete

Andersson would be my guess. They definitely want to get that D shored up and Andersson wouldn’t be a bad grab.

It’s a weakish draft . Not horrible but not a lot of consensus star level talent early on. That’s why teams are more willing to listen this year

Andersson doesn’t get us 6th. That would be a fleecing.
