The more I think about this, the more I think running up the score was the best thing EDM could have done (for our purposes). I'm sure Florida's been super pissed off the last couple days and are just dying to get out there again. I also think it was a bit of a memory jog back to what happened to them against Vegas in last year's finals.

Yeah I think this will serve as an enormous wakeup call for the Panthers. I think they got complacent being up 3-0 in a SCF and assumed Edmonton would quietly die. They looked so out of sorts and the communication was terrible.

You know Maurice will have them fully re-focused and on the same page for tomorrow. Not to mention they'll be at home and even more eager to close this out so they don't have to fly back to Edmonton.

The Oilers were running the first unit power play late in that game when it was a runaway. That's gotta make Fla mad.

I think the momentum of game four changed when Nurse dodged a major with the knee and knee on Bennett. The ABC crew were saying it should be a major and possibly a suspension. Everyone expected five minutes, but it ended up only being two. Tkachuk hits two posts on an empty net, and the Oilers get the puck back and score on the PK. I know the game ended up being 8-1, but if the Panthers score there or get a five minute powerplay the game may have played out differently. Both teams were gripping their sticks early in the game, but the Oilers going up early really loosened them up.

If they tie it up on that Skinner save in the first things might have turned out different too. A blown 2-0 lead in an elimination game.

I agree the Skinner save was a game changer for the Oilers. It was 3-1 shortly after instead of a blown 2 goal lead at home.

Teams almost always bounce back incredibly strong after a big loss in the playoffs like that.
The 4-1 goal early in the 2nd was really the end of the game; Florida shut off after that and mentally were already at game 5.

Well the motivating factor is how absolutely inexcusably embarrassing it would have been to be swept on home ice in the SCF. That's a huge motivator.

Are the real Edmonton Oilers going to creep back in again once more in the next 3 games and look like a tire fire that can't compete at 5-5. I would say obviously, yes.

I don't think a 5min major changes much in that game. Teams are actually usually pretty awful on those lengthy man advantages.

I would actually love to see % differences for teams on majors versus a regular PP. I bet conversion rates drop considerably.

The Oilers scored short handed on the 2min PP so I'm not sure another 3 minutes erases the 7 goal loss
that's just me though

Momentum is a thing, and goals change the direction of a game.

I think it is very reasonable to posit that the game might have been much different had FLA scored, instead of things going back the other way and EDM gets the shortie.

Having said that, WGAF? It's over. Let's go get that fourth W tonight!

Yes, gotta avoid the NBA tonight. Both sports love to draw out their finals as long as humanly possible.

Seems like the NHL is taking a page from the NBA and doing the 2 days between games on travel days.

This series needs to end tomorrow.

The 42 Leafs. Just trying to find something to give them hope. Interviews with Scott Hartnell talking about how this Oiler team reminds him of the Philly teams.

Agreed. Nothing could be worse than a complacent Panthers team who's already planning their cup parade route. Hate the Oilers, but they have a game changer in McDavid. You can't give him an inch. His 4 points, should wake everyone on the Panthers up.
