The rain barrel thing is a pretty cool idea for sure, gonna have to try it as well
Yeah I threw a few Rubbermaid bins under my downspouts and was surprised at what I got. Think I'll have to rig up something more permanent. I'm thinking a tank under my deck with one downspout pvc'd into it or something
OldDutch's posts in this thread are awesome entertainment. Zero understanding and full blame. Feels like a Calgary Sun reader from that opinion page back in the day.

Could be a fun project
Under a deck sounds neat but its good to have a rain barrel raised up higher so that you can drain it with gravity.
I filled two rubbermaid roughneck garbage cans we had leftover from life before the black bin. Took off the downspout and hooked up a couple flex a spout extensions to fill. I'm amazed how much water runs off the roof in an average rainfall.
My 3 rain barrels (almost 700L and near empty) filled up almost instantly when the rain started. It is pretty wild how much rain a roof captures.

In today's briefing Gondek at about 2:45 says we are only using the Glenmore plant now. I guess I'm confused why they aren't able to feed the rest of the system from Bearspaw, other than this broken line?

I wonder if that’s just simplistic messaging saying they glenmore is being used to fill all the reservoirs.
We have 660 million litres in reserve which is a number I don’t think they released before. So about 5 days of make water if we didn’t cut at all. (Roughly 500 supply and 600 use the day before the cuts)
I Can’t believe there are actually people who garden regularly who don’t have rain barrels….
Honestly, it's just never been an issue in all my 47 years. I don't garden, but still, watering a garden from a hose has been standard issue gardening going back to my grandparents' garden.
I just have some bushes intermingled in my xeriscaped yard, but I'm getting a rain barrel now. Also have been totally not minding navy showers and I used to just stand there in a disassociative state for a good 30 minutes. Turns out it is actually super easy to cut back on a significant amount of water use. A lot of negatives with this issue, of course (livelihoods, discomfort, risky suspension of our redundancy), but some good lessons, too.

For me it was gradual, and seeing my water usage shoot up in the summer, along with price increases it just started to make more sense, particularly when we are using probably 100 litres a day. But we have lots of gardens and trees.
