I really like Debrusk but I don't see the need or fit here either

We have a large collection of "meh" wingers. Why do we need more?

Debrusk moving to Calgary may have nothing to do with signing here. I will trust Conroy to do the right thing, and be patient with the rebuild. And I know, I know we will never rebuild. Yada Yada Yada.

Fair enough, I haven’t watched DeBrusk enough to be familiar with his flaws

I just remember how Mang earned his contract one year driving the net and going to the hard places, and how it stopped after he got paid.

I get where you are coming from. Even our shiny new toys are not wart free

Sharangovich is a good shooter and scorer but a huge minus player

We all know what we are seeing. Call it what you like, but most of the old core pieces are gone for younger players and picks. I think that buy in is a key factor. Maurice and Tkachuk have both said essentially that the way they play is hard to do, night in and night out, but they hope it’s harder to play against. That was a nugget of gold in my mind

Barkov does it. He is a leader and sets the tone for everyone. I think Lindholm can do it, maybe not at Barkov’s level because that is elite, but you can see the difference between Lindholm who is all in and Lindholm who is not all in. Same with Mang, in his role.

Lindholm did it when he had A+ linemates. Barkov does it always

Mang did it when he was energized by international play, and in a contract year

Huberdeau is clearly capable of being a point per game guy, you see flashes of it, but something has been missing

Honestly, it’s part having players who can do it, and the combo of coach and players that make them willing to do what it takes.

That, to me, if Conny can figure it out, is what matters.

Huberdeau got 115 points mainly playing with Bennett at ES and then obviously without him on PP1.

Florida picked up castoffs like Bennett for nothing and Forsling on waivers. Somebody figured out how to use these guys, seems to be working out ok for them

DeBrusk did it playing with Marchand or Pasta 5 on 5 50% of the time and getting a regular turn on the PP. So one would have to think Mangiapane may be better than DeBrusk in the regular season. It would be nice if the Flames grabbed playoff performers though.

The Flames always emphasized building defense first. A stay at home D would be a good Tanev replacement, and a potential partner for Andersson or Kylington(if re-signed) that lets them play a more offensive game.
Those are pretty bad trades considering the Flames eat 50% on both deals.

I agree the Flames could be looking to get a 3-4 Dman but I could see Tanev being a guy they try and bring back on a 1-2 year deal around $6M. Does he take that? I am not sure but definitely see them chasing a guy for the top 4

Conroy has stated multiple times he really wants guys who want to be here and likely for personal reasons Debrusk could fit that profile. I just hope it is not an overpay because he doesn’t move the needle a ton in my opinion. And with Huberdeau, Coleman, Mangiapane, Kuzmenko, Sharongovich, Zary, Pospisil, Coronato, Pelletier I am not sure I see a fit unless they are moving some other bodies out

Read on TSN that Ottawa has interest in Markstrom. I wouldn’t mind the Flames picking up Chychrun in return.

I think it would be good asset management to bring in DeBrusk on a 1 or 2-year deal. Potentially could be buying a 2nd and a prospect or something

It wouldn't be surprising if there is a trade soon. I'm pretty sure that cmpDave guy has broken a few things before.

It's just weird to me that we would trade Markstrom and then pick up Debrusk. One signals a selling team and the other a buyer.

I'd be shocked if he were into that. I think you are looking at minimum 4 years... Maybe 5.

I guess it could make sense depending on who you are shipping out, but I am not tripping over myself to make it happen.
