This saga has been dragging on forever. I actually feel bad for Markstrom, he never asked to be traded.
It makes no sense to keep him, but at the same time I'm annoyed at how long this has dragged out for. Imagine the player waiting for this.

I think Sec had info that Markstrom has in fact requested a trade. But he wants it done quietly. Island from what I can tell, it's been dealt with quietly.

It isn't all that quiet if it's on a message board. I guess he won't confirm it which helps the Flames, but still sucks it got out. Happy Sec released the info though, as as fan.

If I had to guess, it's Fitz expressing his frustration with Conroy going back to other teams, letting them know he got his ask and to see if those teams could beat NJ's offer. Similar to what happened with the Lindholm trade.

Sounds like Fitz is worried that his protected 2025 1st offer might get beaten.
I’m not happy with that return either. I’m with Conroy.

Yeah, if this rumour is true I can't see how the 10th OA is part of it. If there was a chance it was part of the deal Conroy would have accepted by now, imo.

I assume it’s because if 10th overall in this draft was on the table, Conroy would take it because it’s doubtful anyone else could beat that offer. Where as any team willing to trade any first round pick in this year’s draft would likely be able to beat the offer of a protected 2025 first round pick from New Jersey… so Conroy would likely shop around with New Jersey’s offer as the minimum bid if all they offer is a protected 2025 first round pick.

I'm actually shocked NJD are the winners in this bidding war. Toronto, Edmonton, Colorado, Carolina are all contenders that could use an upgrade at goalie. Then there are other teams that need goaltending like Ottawa, NJD, etc. The price for Markstom should be sky high and I don't see why NJD are the natural fit.

Ottawa is another team that's supposed to be in on Markstrom, and they have 7th overall.
Even if Jersey offers 10th, I'd be giving Ottawa a chance to raise – just in case.

None of them are picking in the top 10. The Devils and Senators are the only two bidders I know of that can offer that.
