In my opinion the best trade or signing they've made in the Draisaitl/McDavid era was getting Mattias Ekholm. A proper D man. And that's it, that's the list. They've done piss poor everywhere else in the team building department. Edot: ahhh, forgot about the Hyman-ator.
1 actual d man and some cast offs. They lucked out with Bouchard. And Broberg looks to be good as well. I hate that Broberg is an Oiler.

I think Flames fans were right all along not to buy into the team or the hype around them. Kudos to the ones that held strong and didn't jump ship or succumb to assuming the worst.
We were laughed at and goaded but let's just take a moment to remember how many media guys picked the no goods in this series when it wasn't even close.
Looking at you, Frank!

Anyone who calls him a top 10 player in the world is sorely mistaken. 4 points in 9 games in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Diving on the slightest of contact. Standing around waiting for McDavid to create time and space. This is a guy who simply can't carry his own line at this time of year. He has routinely had his head caved in when away from McDavid over his entire career during the playoffs. I hope he signs long term at 13M+.

Yeah, was going to say that I hope he signs an extension for $13 million per with the oilers. It'll be harder to keep McDavid around then and hopefully he walks as a free agent.

Rumblings that Sam Gagner is going to be plugged in to save the Oiler season tomorrow.

Are you really going to put $30 million down between the two? two guys on the wrong side of 30, with no money for a proper defense, or proper goaltending?
If the Oilers were smart, they would absolutely be trading Drai this offseason. They won't be smart. They'll make the playoffs next year, because no one else is going to be stepping up in the division to take that away from them.
Drai will then walk to UFA. McDavid will follow to UFA the year after.

For arguments sake, put on an Oilers brain say Pissy is the 2nd best player in the NHL (next to McDavid of course).
And let's say Edmonton is the 2nd best team in the league based on the premise of this tweet.
If he goes to say Dallas, NYR, or one of the other teams that are 3-6th best, they instantly overtake Edmonton by getting the 2nd best player in the league and Edmonton losing him.
He's not going to another team and that other team remaining only as competitive as they are now.

Not only serious but doubling-down and defending it in the replies. Apparently no other contending teams can afford him without making their team worse.
Quick check for the cap space various top teams have the year Draisatl would be a UFA (as of today).
Boston - $44.97 million
Colorado - $28.68 million
Florida - $42.12 million
Dallas - $52.18 million
I got bored and stopped there. Any team that wants to fit in Draisatl can make it happen. Draisatl will not play his next contract in Edmonton. Nor will McDavid.

And if Boston is truly a front runner for him like it was rumored, they’re well positioned. Especially with ullmark likely moving

Well for McDavid he's not smart enough to cut the wire, and he doesn't want to compete hard enough when things are hard to lay on the wire. He's sit there and whine to everyone that hears that the wire is unfair… snip...

As you said yourself many years ago somewhere in this forum CC … There are two types. Those who go @$$ to mouth, and those who don’t. McDoofus is of the latter type.

If he signs for $13 million/year his agent should be fired as that would be less than Matthews contract which is a bridge designed to ensure that he makes more than that on his next deal in four years. Draisaitl has been considerably underpaid on his current deal and should be looking for $14-15 million as he will get that on the market.

It's hilarious that some people think he's the best ever when he's not even the best player today. I take MacKinnon and Makar over him at this point and it's not close. You know...guys who have won and play a 200 foot game.
And that's not even getting into players who are retired or past their prime who you'd take way before McDavid. Could he have been as good or better? Maybe. But he's just plain not.

Don't forget BouchBomb. He has as many points as Leon this playoffs and will be considered a keeper. $10 mil? If you look at Nurse contract....$13mil?
