Don't mind it but I feel like it's going to look like a bluer version of San Jose ignoring the logo.
Variation is good. Vegas chose a not great colour scheme but at least it was different.

Reminds me more of the Jets color scheme or the Kraken. Too close for 3 of them.
Don't mind the Utah HC stuff. It's should be that or Mammoth.

Yeah, it is common in soccer. A lot of the time though, the team will organically adopt a nickname. The Montreal Canadiens followed this path actually. They are officially "le Club de Hockey Canadien", or in English the "Canadian Hockey Club". Canadiens was just the short version adopted and later made official.
The HC that makes up their logo actually stands for "Hockey Club".

This is a surprise to people?
They said basically day 3 after the shock announcement of moving, that they were going to be generic year 1, with the name and uniforms etc, while they nail the branding and name for year 2. It takes that long for everything to run through the league channels for any team for a rebrand or for uniform and logo changes.
I expect a fully or mostly different color palette to go with the official name for 2025, though in a few years, fans will clamour for one of these as an alternate.
