I don't understand the play calling, this is where you hand the ball off and see if your RB can break one or even if you get 2nd and short, you're still in good shape.

While not perfect, Maier has looked like a QB tonight. I like that he had been willing to roll out of the pocket to extend plays.

Yeah, just as somebody who feels like they understand football, I'd really like a full explanation of that call. For intellectual purposes.
He caught it. He didn't get touched. He hit the ground. He fumbled it.
I understand "the ground can't make you fumble" but... you're also not down if you're not touched.
