What's the flight number? Encore flights use 3000 series numbers.

Golf clubs are just a bag so you’re fine.

Good news. Hope they get a clear path to WJ mainline now

My brother was there a few months ago. There are a crap ton of Airbnb properties in the town; some are really cool and on the cheaper end.
I guess the properties were built for that purpose.

I'm sure something was worked out. The Sunwing merger is another fly in the ointment to seniority integration, will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Up next, Air Canada pilots and their negotiations.

Got an email from Westjet about their new UltraBasic fares. Last to board, no carry on, not sitting together, etc.

Other interesting details:
Westjet Mastercard still gets a free checked bag
Carry on allowed trans-pacific/Atlantic
This replaces Basic, sounds like they won't offer that any more

The wording of that email is almost comedic, basically everything gets worse and they present it as offering more options to customers.

Just curious, for those who've applied for Nexus, how long did it take to get conditional approval / get to the stage where you were able to book an interview?
Just applied for the first time. The processing time is currently listed as 12-14 months.

Woof.
No carry-ons, higher fees for seat selection, higher fees for checked bags, last on the plane and back of the plane. Neat little option they've put together here.

Would love to see an airline try out 'no carry-on but you can check a bag for free' option, but that's probably too much value for an 'ultrabasic' fare.

People ripping them online but I don't see the issue really. It fits with their 'we have a service level for every type of customer' narrative from when they ditched swoop and bought sunwing
This fare is just the swoop replacement. If you don't want that level of service then just keep buying the econo fare that you were probably already buying anyway.
Edit: Like I said when we talked about this a few weeks ago though, I will hate it if it's the same price as basic. Looks like it's actually cheaper though from my looking around, $100 less for my flight to Halifax in a few weeks. We'll see if that remains the case

I would agree with you except the 'Basic' option (which I usually book and includes a carry on), no longer exists. This is shrinkflation, unless I'm misunderstanding the new option.

As long as it remains cheaper than basic was, and the range to jump to econo remains about the same, then to me it checks out.
What'll be interesting is if it stays like that or it's just that way now because they know people will be looking for it

Ultrabasic might actually work for me if it's ultra-cheap. I've started taking day trips from Calgary to Saskatoon to visit my parents from time to time. I don't need anything more than what can go under the seat in front of me and for a one hour flight, I can put up with the crappy seat they give me.
Would never use it any other time though.

I agree. If people choose a flight because it's $10 cheaper than a competitor, then this is what you get. The whole "guests checking a carry-on bag at the gate will be charged a checked bag fee and a service fee to check the bag under the aircraft" thing seems like a disaster. You're gonna hold up the boarding line every time a person gets their bag checked and has to pay for it at the gate? Everyone already ignores the "complimentary sky check" pages and chaos ensues during boarding, so what's empowering Westjet employees to make this situation work?
Even worse, what if they won't check anyone and people will try to jam huge bags under the seat. That'll force the flight attendants to sort that mess out in the plane. How much money is this really making Westjet if none of their planes leave on time because of boarding nonsense?
