Flames have come into some pretty good defensive prospects in the last few months. Between Poirier, Gruschnikov, Brz, Morin, Solovyov and Miromamov, they're in decent shape for potential nhlers even if they don't take one of the top tier of D here.

If Tij is there I think it would be a solid move, given how his stock has quickly risen and the possibility that he develops into a C.

The don't have a D that I think has top pairing potential. That's an issue.

Perhaps a bit unkind to Brzustewicz but hard to disagree. We need a 1D.

We need a #1D and #1C.

We need a lot of things, but we need those 2 things first.

If Tij is going to be a C and he falls to us, I think you grab him. He has the pedigree to be a superstar.

If Tij or someone like Lindstrom isn't an option then I'm all for them dipping into that pool of high end D talent.

Andersson's our #1 currently (probably a #2 realistically if you look past his down year) and he was drafted in the 2nd round. This pick isn't do or die for whether they'll get a top defender into their system for this rebuild. That player could be found in their current prospect base, another pick in this draft or in the next 2 drafts.

There are forwards you can make exceptions for here, but probably only a couple. I think Tij is one. But that's just my thought.

I think his ceiling is 2nd pairing, top PP unit.

Despite the reports last week, I don't think he's a C at the NHL level at all.

I think this draft is unique with the quality of D. I think there are 8 guys with top pairing potential (not all of them of course will make it) and a couple interesting guys further down, including Jiricek who I think would be in that grouping if not for the injury.

Next year's draft is poor on D (at least as of now).

I think Lindstrom is interesting because he could be a unique opportunity to get a #1 centre, if he falls due to injury. There's risk there but I would take a swing at him if he's there.

I think I'd feel a little better about Lindstrom if we didn't just take Honzek in 2023. I didn't mind the pick at the time, but injuries have seemed to derail his progress. Doing that two years in a row might be a little much for a team trying to rebuild through the draft.

Lindstrom's camp is saying that the injuries are no big deal, which is what you would expect them to say. The team that takes him will obviously have to do their own due diligence on him.

I think your comp is the 2012 draft, much weaker than normal forward draft, and much stronger than normal D draft, but I'm not sure you look at any of the any of the about 20 d men that had great NHL careers, and think you yourself that's I guy who can't be passed over for a guy who can drive first line offence, so if he is there and you believe he can drive offence the way his dad did, you probably have to think long and hard about taking Tij, and trying to recover the D man later in the draft, a position that is much harder to successfully scout at the age of 18, and sees a much high proportion of 2nd round+ homeruns, and a higher proportion of top 5 pick busts.

Yeah and even if you don't think Catton will be a center in the NHL I don't know how you can pick Iginla over him given Catton's rarified air of production. I have my sights on three players at 9 and that's Buium, Parekh, and Catton and that's not a slight against Iginla and more that I view those players with higher NHL upside as I feel Iginla has a high floor but a lower ceiling. I think regardless the Flames should get a very good player at 9 and it's just a matter of which one and where that player fits with the organizational needs which where I feel Iginla is more of a nice to have with Coronato and Zary already in the system.

Out of nowhere I had a dream last night that the Flames picked Iginla.

LOL out of nowhere eh? I'm sure this thread and the constant discussion has nothing to do with it.

It's hard to say if he will available at 9. If he isn't, there will still be some good players available. If he is, we likely draft him.

It's a win-win scenario.

9. Tij

Trade for Buffalo's pick: Parekh

Van 1st: Hage

That's a dream situation right there, if we're dreaming.

Parekh at 11 seems crazy to me. If you actually were able to complete a trade for that pick to draft him in that spot, that would be an unbelievable foundation to start with.

Somebody will fall to 11 and will seem like a steal IMO.

Trade Markstrom + 28 for 10

Trade Andersson for 11

Get Iginla, Helenius, Parekh and you've really kickstarted the retool.

Landing one of 10 or 11 is achievable though. Both picks are rumored to be tradeable, we have assets both teams want... Even if we can score one while keeping our other firsts, that would be a huge leg up for us.

Hage seems to be solidifying in the 20s in consensus ratings. I have landed him with our vancouver pick in the FC mock 3 days in a row now. Tij at 9, Hage with the van 1st. Silayev, Levshunov, and Dickinson were all available at 9 as well.
