I'm not the biggest Necas fan but comparing him to Stempniak or Glencross is laughable.

He's a former 12th overall who has a 71 point season under his belt.

Markstrom for Necas is just that. Fills a major need for them.

We can flip Necas for some draft picks.

If the Flames do land Necas it's with Kotkaniemi attached to him. Something the Canucks cannot do. That's my guess anyways.

I can see a hockey trade here. It's been reported before the Canes aren't looking for futures, they want players right now. So look to our main roster and go from there.

Well, he's not a "throw in", and you have to ask if Backlund wants to toil at the bottom of the standings at this point in his career? I seriously doubt it. I think he would welcome a chance to go to a contending team.

Landing a guy like Necas without subtracting any major draft inventory would be a hell of a win all things considered. Personally, I can't see it.

I don't see Markstrom having enough value to get you a 25 year old top line forward straight across.

I expect Necas has more value than Andersson.

I do get that Andersson is cheaper and that's good, but for only 2 years, and then comes a contract someone will regret.

And Andersson did not have a very good year. Neither did Necas, but that was likely due to lack of premium ice time.

Maybe their value is equal, but I doubt Carolina would be adding a strong future piece

No they won't. People keep pushing this narrative that Markstrom has to be traded this offseason for whatever they can get. They don't. If you can't get the value you want for him this offseason you bring him back next year. Someone is going to be not satisfied with their goaltending and overpay or another #1 will get hurt on a contender. There is no reason Conroy has to take a below asking price offer for Markstrom, he has two years remaining.

Trouba is an American with an NTC and he already walked on the Jets because he didn’t want to play in Canada.

Part of me thinks if they land someone like Necas, the thought of contention will obviously top any thoughts of trading Markstrom. And he'll maybe want to stay too.
