Why would I feel responsible if he doesn't pan out? I am saying it isn't fair to the kid if he has unrealistic expectations placed on him and then gets backlash from those who made those expectations. Fans turn on players easily, look at how excited everyone was to get Huberdeau who has struggled to fit in here. He is a nice guy, he is trying, he helps with the community, and yet most Flames fans will tell you what a useless pos he is. Now you take the son of the greatest player to play for this team and you put ridiculous expectations out there for him, it's unfair.

Calling it now, Tij Iginla will be the greatest center in Flames history.

Wait. Are there people suggesting we draft Tij because hes going to win Hart and Art Ross trophies?

NOT just win them in his career but win them as an 18 year old rookie.
Come June 2025 Iginla as the #1 center for the Flames will win the Art Ross, Rocket Richard, Hart Trophy, and the Ted Lindsay trophy.
Anything less and he should be considered a complete and total bust.

If he's not going to be the greatest player of all time then just pass and take a defenceman.

Someone's expectations is Leon Draisaitl, so yes.

I don't think fans will turn on Tij or any prospect.
The Huberdeau thing is completely different. We traded our heart and soul away for him, and signed him to a ridiculous contract. And over night, he forgot how to play hockey. There are very specific scenarios that panned out for the Flames fan base to turn on him so fast.
If a prospect struggles people will be blaming management more than the player.

I do as well, and I think he’s there at 9.
I don’t see Ottawa passing on either of the OHL D.
I don’t see Utah passing on an NCAA guy or one of the Russians.
I don’t see Montreal passing on Lindstrom or any of the Russians.
Spokane is in Seattle’s backyard, so I’d guess they have more viewings of Catton/like him more, but that’s pure conjecture.
I think it’s a perfect storm for the Flames to take him - they won’t have to reach, they won’t have to trade up.
Lots of times the best thing is to do nothing, and this feels like one of those times.

Ok, well if we are setting that bar I have heard a scout say Lindstrom is going to be the next Eric Lindros so we should probably do everything in our power to draft him instead.

Hell, the odds of Celebrini being as good as Draisaitl are actually fairly low. This is my concern in drafting Tij, some fans are having some serious unrealistic expectations and when he doesn't win Art Ross trophy's or Hart trophy's there is going to be disappointment. I still think his offense is going to take a considerable hit playing centre, they can try it though.

It was more than a few (3?), in games 2,4,6 and 7 he took shifts at center that I noticed, I'm seriously baffled at your dislike of Iginla and any player the flames draft there's going to be unrealistic expectations of him.
I guess you can take solace in knowing he won't last to 9th anyway.

Why do you keep putting out this false narrative I don't like Tij Iginla? I can show you multiple posts where I have praised the player and even have the Flames selecting him in my mock draft. Just because I don't think the player is the ideal fit for the Flames doesn't mean I dislike the player. You are so certain he is going to be a franchise player, I am not and neither are the scouting reports about him. He looks like a guy who will be a 30+ goal winger if he reaches his ceiling, he isn't going to be his dad. Still a very valuable player but the Flames I think are better served taking one of the defensemen or centres that either project to be better players or as good as Tij. From the things I have read and heard I would be absolutely shocked if Tij Iginla goes before 9. There is going to be a huge run on D men at the start of the draft and then you have 3 forwards in there that consistently look better in Lindstrom, Demidov, and Catton. I wouldn't be surprised if some teams have Eiserman ahead of Tij as well given his shot and numbers. I don't dislike Tij Iginla, I just look at the player for what he is without looking at the name on the back. Can you honestly say you would be so defensive about the player if his last name was Smith instead?

What things are you reading and hearing? Most of what I have read or heard indicates Tij will be gone before pick 9.

Based on what? I have seen around two reports that project him going before 9. Almost every mock draft done by publications have him going anywhere between 9-15.

People keep saying Iginla be gone before the Flames pick with such certainty and yet we have our own site owner who has generously updated the projections of the players of all the publications available. Go look at it and tell me again Iginla is going to be gone by 9 with certainty. By far the only place where people are convinced Tij is going before 9 is here and that is only because his last name is Iginla.
