Doesn't fix anything, need to do a root cause analysis to solve the issues that lead to this incident.
If you just think deporting this guy solves the issue I have bad news for you, it'll happen again until the issues that lead to it are resolved.
But whatever makes you feel safer

While I believe that some of the changes that were made are a step in the right direction I don’t think that it’s anywhere near enough, personally I wouldn’t describe the changes that were made as “a lot”. Most of what was legislated in my opinion looks good on paper and sounds good politically but that’s about it, some industries being exempt doesn’t really help either. Also, most of these changes only apply to semi truck drivers and there is an ever growing number of commercial drivers on public roadways who don’t operate semi trucks or require a class 1 license but are still on public roadways.

I can't get too angry with this guy, it's extremely unfortunate and tragic but for this type of crime I don't feel compelled to scream for deportation.

Yikes, rough post. I remember people used to make these comments about asians when Calgary was much more white and racist in the late 90's/early 2000's whenever there was gang violence in the news.
"Get em out of here! Send em back to where they came from". Like as if young white Canadians aren't involved in unnecessary fights and violence all the time in our city?

Get out of here with that progressive trope, jayswin.
It's universally acknowledged that being born within certain sets of imaginary lines makes your individual life more valuable than others, and thus you are extended increased rights and privileges.

Are you suggesting Canadian citizens who commit crimes be deported out of the country?

Best part of those times were that most of the fob and fobk were born in Canada and people were calling for them to be deported.
We now see it happen in the comments section of any brown person commiting a crime. "DEPORT!"
It's the most ignorant thing someone can say. Brown people born here are canadians just as much as Mike Jones born here. Assuming someone isn't canadian because of the color of their skin is prime racism.

What issue? What's that got to do with my post about not assuming a person of color isn't canadian?

Didn't he have like a massive amount of traffic violations prior to the crash? Seems like this guy was a disaster waiting to happen.

People bring up the point of “what good is it going to do by deporting him?” And I agree with that, he’s remorseful, it was an accident and it changed the barrier for entry into the trucking profession.
Now let’s ask a similar question but on the other foot. By allowing him to stay in Canada, what does Canada (and Canadians) stand to gain? He killed a lot of kids and adults and had committed multitudes of infractions leading up to the accident. So I ask again, what is his benefit to us and our country? Living here while not being a citizen should be a privilege and not a right and you have to abide by our rules in doing so (he did not).
I don’t see the benefit in keeping him in Canada given what he has done. With that said I do sympathize with him and I’m sure he will be reliving that day for the rest of his life. If the courts decide to not deport him I will understand that as well, I just won’t agree with it.

Normally I'd agree with you, but we also have a housing shortage.
I am all for immigration, but if you bring in too many people with nowhere for them to live you're going to cause problems.

Canada is a big country when it comes to physical space, but is a small country when it comes to where most immigrants want to live. Immigration in general isn't a problem, but it's implemented very poorly. I think provinces and municipalities should have a lot more control over it.
This is getting way off topic though. I think in this particular case, deportation is warranted, but it is also sad for everyone involved. His family is either going to have to split up or move to India with him, which just sucks.

That’s issue. Over immigration and we don’t have the infrastructure or housing for this.
Our roads are crap. Homes are being tossed up anywhere they can find.
It’s leading to more anger and racism.

Nowhere for people to live. No jobs to work and a Health Care system already on the brink?
You can see these problems coming from miles away.
I agree. I've said it a million times. We are the second largest Sovereign Land-Mass on the face of this Earth and we have a laughably low population. We should be welcoming immigration!
But you cant just bring in people without places for them to live and work and receive Health Care...we dont have the infrastructure for that kind of influx.
400,000 people? Per year?
Thats a standing Army. At your gates.
I'm reminded of when during the Refugee Crisis all of those people were trying to get into Turkey and on the news people were admonishing the Turks for slow and unwieldy ingress processes.
Yeah. Well. Thats literally an invading Army. Nobody and I mean NOBODY on this planet has the infrastructure in place to handle that many incoming people all at once.
So I'll say it again. I know this isnt the Politics thread but I am all for Immigration, but we have to be smart about this and I think this Policy is in place for 'points' and its going to fail.

Didn't catch all of it but there was an economist on 77 last week who claimed that if you add in the exploding rent costs immigration is now costing Canadians upwards of $50 billion a year, seems extremely high to me but who knows.

I still lay more blame at the feet of the company he drove for than the driver himself.
