GOAT!
|
From what I understand, he's a natural center but accepted a shift to the wing in order to get more ice time in a more prominent role.
I think the fact that he broke out this year has more to do with getting top line minutes and being played in top line situations, than it has to do with moving to the wing.
Watch the guy play. He looks like someone who is quite used to the middle of the ice, and having everything go through him.

I said it before, Iginla has as much chance of being an NHL center as Lindstrom, Helenius or Catton.

Sure but I think his numbers will go back down at centre. As for the second part that is a big stretch, those three have put up big numbers at centre, Iginla has not. I have yet to see one scout project Iginla as an NHL centre.

He didn't accept a shift to the wing, he was moved there because he struggled to produce as a centre iceman. After moving to wing his offence rocketed up, he is going to be a winger. This sounds like the draft Iginla no matter what crowd trying to grasp at straws to strengthen their argument.

Good one.

Necas had plenty of centre at the NHL level, as a matter of fact he has taken more shifts at C then wing in his career.

Because he played winger in the WHL, so why would a scout project him there. If post draft he starts playing center, they'll project him there more often. That's not difficult to grasp
And his numbers might go down but probably but there is more much than numbers. Tij Iginla has insane numbers this year, he was one of three 17 year olds to hit 40 goals, and he's the only one who's still 17 for two more months. Berly Catton's been 18 for six months now. A big difference.

He didn't have insane numbers until he was placed on the wing. The guy is going to be a winger, every single scout I have read confirms that.

You're being way too obtuse about this, plenty of 16 year olds get moved to the wing as they hit the bigger leagues, there is only so many C spots. You're acting like he was some swimmer lost at sea. He's one of the younger draft eligible players and found his spot at wing. That might be wear he projects but if he continues his progression as a player and plays down the middle next year he's an even better prospect.

(because he didn't play center in his draft year, if he does post draft and excels he'll change that status).

He hasn’t. He was terrible down the middle.
Glad he won’t be a Flame.

I'm not being obtuse, you are ignoring reality. If he plays down the middle next year his numbers are going to come down period. It might help his two way game but he isn't going to be an NHL centre, no way.

Because there is nothing about Iginla's game that says centre and everything that says winger. I will make a gentleman's bet with you Paulie because you are so sure and you have such issues with me. When Iginla makes to the NHL if he plays primarily centre in his first two years I will leave this site forever, but if he ends up a winger at the NHL level you do the same. I am that sure he will not be a centre at the NHL level, care to back your certainty up?

Didn't a lot of current centers play wing in their first 2 seasons in the NHL? Minus the bigger stars, of course. A lot of teams do it to get the player used to NHL speed without the responsibilities.
