Same thoughts as me. It didn't come across that there's any concerns or worries about coming to Calgary, and instead something they might be genuinely excited about.

I think he means.........

hasn't hoped for a particular player (Iginla) this much since he wanted Tkachuk in 2016. He wanted Zary in 2020 pretty bad, but not as bad as Tkachuk in 2016 or Iginla in 2024. haha

Based on what? Every leak last year had the most definite pick in that draft being Michkov to Montreal. It was a done deal according to everyone. Except it wasn't.

I suspect they are trying to panic the Flames into trading 9th and 28th OA and Zary for 5th OA, thinking that the Flames will significantly overpay to be sure that they get Tij.

Iggy Jr. is going to be a player, but he's a reach at 5 for any club, with the Flames being the club most likely to make that reach.

No. Just no.

Use the picks. Take players. Trading up is a sucker's game.

All I know is Montreal drafting Iggy Jr. would be a pretty big boot to the nuts, when you consider it was one of their media that screwed Iggy Sr. out of his Hart trophy.

IIRC there was a lot of noise leading up to the draft that the Habs really really liked Reinbacher actually, especially post combine and in the week before the draft.

I believe on the 32 thoughts podcast a week or two before the draft Elliotte actually said "People believe that if Will Smith is gone, then Montreal will take Reinbacher" which ended up being true.

Lots of the noise around Michkov and Montreal was earlier on in the season and more of the "Montreal is one of the places Michkov wants to play" variety...not necessarily that Montreal was interested in him though. And of course the Montreal fan base really wanted them to select Michkov which was also a lot of the noise.

Will be interesting to see though what is noise and what is real here from Montreal's end.

I mean its just as likely that Ottawa, Arizona, or Seattle are set on taking Tij too. Heck, even Chicago at 2 could grab Iginla if they really like the player. It seems like year where there could be some real surprises because that second tiering seems to change all the time after Celebrini and extends into the double digit draft positions.

You just never know. Maybe he'll be there, maybe he won't.

Totally. This discussion was kicked off because someone said that they had it on good authority "a call was made" and Iginla's name was already stitched into a Canadiens' jersey.

Right... as if they'd call the kid, in a draft like this, pre-combine and before they've done their due diligence and final interviews over the next two weeks. Sure, if this were a week before the draft, maybe, but at this point? It's pure speculation or it's a false rumour designed to get a trade done.

Philly guys talking about Tij:

"I think Berkly Catton has higher upside... but... Iginla... he's just one of those guys, where you watch him and his game projects so well to the NHL. Like, you watch him, and you can see... you see an NHL player when you watch him."

"There's not a high bust factor..."

"No, no not at all."

"A very... very high floor, as they would say, with him."

"I would say so, and I think the ceiling is high for him too. Like, the ceiling is first-line winger..."

"Yeah."

"...but the floor is like... really good middle-six winger that you want on your team."

Accept my sloppily put together post!

I really wanted Chucky in '16.

I wanted Zary in '20.

I want Iginla more than I wanted Zary in '20, and probably more than I wanted Chucky in '16 too.

Meh anyone who would do a deal to move down to 9 would do that same deal 10 mins later too. Eliminate the bluff, dont trade up. If Montreal actually takes him at 5 I might give them a ring and see what it would take.

It should be against the law.

In fact, Iggy senior should be hovering over them when they're up giving a stink eye that would make Mike Smith blush.

Iginlas cannot be property of any other Canadian team.

Interesting article on The Athletic with Duha talking to Jarome about the draft. Jarome says Tij would like to be a full time center starting next year.

“Some of the meetings were on Zoom, but whenever it goes to Tij, I’d just get off — or if it’s live, I’ll leave the room,” said Iginla. “Just because they have to feel comfortable to speak honestly. It’s no fun to hear about your son, one way or the other. I also don’t try to give too much input because, as a dad, I know we only see the best parts. There’s a dad bias – so I kinda stay out of that.

“He played center growing up for the most part,” said Jarome. “When he started in Seattle, playing as a 16-year-old, he probably played half and half, center and wing, but he didn’t play that much. So then this year, he played wing pretty much the whole time. But he talked to the coach going out and next year he’ll work at trying to get him to play center. He enjoyed center more. He wants to be a center. The coach said he’ll give him a chance next year. So yeah, I think he’ll probably be a center.

Well that changes things for me considerably.

Ah, so he was a natural center growing up but wanted / needed more icetime so he played winger instead? Just draft Tij if he's available.
