He also said "it'll be out soon" which is weird considering they're not supposed to have a name until next season. Maybe the NHL told them to get their #### together.

He's charged with the IMPOSSIBLE task to make the Delta Center an actual NHL arena. They've been busy, lol

High road???
Re: Auction - June 27th, Meruelo won't pull anything off. Rumors of other bidders, but Meruelo is absolutely inept and his son is essentially running the team right now. They are an absolute joke.

You'd think that winning the auction should be a no brainer. The value of the land for him is tied to being able to purchase an NHL franchise 3-4 years from now for $1 billion. Anyone else by that point in time, it would probably cost them $2 billion for an NHL franchise by then. So even if he paid $1 billion for the land which is probably 10 times what it's worth, he would make that money back.
And 7-8 years from now he could probably sell that franchise for $2.5 billion the way franchise values in sports are going.

I think this is their plan (Build a development, sell off the NHL team and own+manage the real estate), but the ability to politically get it done and business wise they don't have the chops.. as they've proven. They can tell themselves all they want that only the players were sold to Utah and they still own the "Franchise" but they just own some logos and an AHL team currently. They're largely viewed as inept in Arizona.

Place is the loudest building in sports. Phil Jackson used earplugs in there.
An Arizona fan talking about an "actual NHL arena" is pretty funny.

This is why the Smith group didnt name the team right away.

The Utah Hockey Club set records last week when its jerseys went on sale for the first time.
The NHL established a new franchise in Utah on April 18, but jerseys didn’t go on sale to the public until Utah played the Vegas Golden Knights at Delta Center on Nov. 15, creating pent-up demand.
Fans lined up at the team store, and Utah set the Delta Center single-day sports-event sales record. It beat the previous record -- set at its inaugural game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 8, when other merchandise was available -- by 48 percent.
Utah set an NHL record, too. Among regular-season games at home arenas, Utah had the best single-game net merchandise sales total, beating the previous best sales total by 29 percent.
Utah jerseys on NHLShop.com and NHLShop.ca sold out in 24 hours. The team store at Delta Center still has some inventory available. Only the jerseys in the team store come with the inaugural season shoulder patches worn by the players.

He knows what he is doing because they will do this all over again next year.
