Yeah either way, there might be criminal code concerns even if the intention isn't to go after people with it. If you're still proceeding forward, maybe something less conspicuous and lance-like like a Makila?

Oh neat, I love that. I'll see if I can find one online. I have found some spear tips as well, so if I sense a bear around I might be able to affix the spear to the Makila in time. Never heard of that thing, but it seems bad ass af.

Alternate spelling is Makhila.
https://makhila.com/en/order-makhila/
Crazy pricey, but it's basically a functional museum piece. Even has UNESCO recognition. Custom to your height, weight, your initials and motto of choice engraved into it... Petty cool
Price might make you go back to investigation of spears again.

Good lord, man. I'm not paying that much for a stick haha. Very cool though.

I had no clue that's how expensive they were when the idea popped up at first. My bad.
But reading up on then makes me want to consider getting one one day and mounting it on my wall as a neat and unique discussion piece. Lol.

No harm in carrying something around to split wood. You'll look fantastic with a sword belt, and don't forget the added caloric burn of the weight!

Sliver, what if the bear just swats the spear to the side? Your crouched down on the ground like a meatball. You would be lunch.

Sliver riding in the Bow Valley at night, bravely vanquishing any bear he encounters with his spear of deathtany.

2 years later, finally doing just that. Will be spending a good part of a day in October in that area doing my best to fill a suitcase.

I feel like it would be easier for him to just go hiking in full punk mode with those spikey dog collars wrapped all over his body. There’s a reason no one messes with porcupines.

Well, just got the notification the spear is back in stock for anybody looking for a good defensive hiking spear:
https://www.bladescanada.com/United-...l-Spear-UC2961
Still hard to figure out if it's legal, but I'm going to chance it. Have some big hikes coming up. Also just heard there was an aggressive bear in Canmore over the weekend. No way I'm walking around without a weapon.

I'd say you're probably several magnitudes more likely to injure or kill yourself (or someone else) with the spear than be attacked by a bear.
