Spray foam insulation anyone have experience?

We moved last summer from a house with central AC to our new house without and thought we could get by... But between it being an old house, brown exterior stucco absorbing heat and the living room has vaulted ceiling with probably basically no insulation and old windows we were cooked to death plus small baby.

So we caved and got AC but due to a mix up ended up being close to the end of the summer. So we ended up doing a few things with greener homes grant/loan to hopefully help things and it has but I think the biggest problem is the roof insulation in the vaulted living room. We also need a new roof so we are planning to eventually get a new roof and at the same time spray foam insulate the vaulted roof section that is currently not vented and is tongue and groove wood interior ceiling.

Has anyone had this type or work done? Or have you used any spray foam insulation companies you could recommend?

The sun hits this part of the roof all day long and even on recent warmer days the temp outside ends up being the temp in the living room pretty easily.. AC cant really keep up probably due to the insulation. Have to start the AC earlier in the day to maintain but it runs forever and cant win, rest of the house has normal decent insulation and is cooled down well.

awesome thanks that is who I had in mind looks like they have a roofing division to so probably would be easiest for them to handle everything. But the spray foam is definitely going to up the cost.

What was the experience like? How Ling did it take? What prep did you need to do? How has it held up? Did you notice a difference even with old windows?

I remember some CBC and CTV news pieces about spray foam insulation cases having gone wrong. Definitely something to get experienced companies to do.

I just renovated my house (full gut to the studs) and used spray foam in the roof as well as some kind of spray filler in the walls. It's amazing for sound and has been awesome for insulation in a cold, drafty house built in the 80's.

Totally recommend it.

We used Beyond Foam a few months ago.

Their sales and scheduling staff were super easy to deal with.

The installers knocked off some ducting in our 113 year old tiny crawl space, that admittedly were in totally rough shape so they probably sneezed in the wrong direction.

I was very forthcoming that things were in rough shape, and still they paid for a professional HVAC contractor to come fix things, no questions asked.

Abso3make sure you have real pros do this. If not done properly moisture can become trapped between foam and exterior, and moisture is definitely not our friend.

Years ago watched this small documentary about people building their custom dream home and the spray foam was mixed properly and smelled like fishy and was making them sick. And you can imagine if it’s not done right the house is basically garbage was kind of scary to think about.

I was getting roof replaced and spray foam over vaulted ceiling but did not go as planned.. about an hour into the job they ripped off one of my douglas fir tongue and groove boards that is the roof in my living room..

brought me outside and told me bad news.. they have only seen one roof like this before and essentially my douglas fir tongue and groove roof is the structure and there was no space or place to spray foam. options were mod bit roof on that section with some foam board or reframing entire roof and redo all the metal work so I could spray foam.. they said they it would take 3-4 weeks probably to get done and unknown dollar amount so went with the simple option..
also had some random problems they put a glue down for the membrane knowing the other side of boards was living room and had bright red glue dripping into living room on carpent and lamp.. had 10 drywall nails pop out of drywall in kitchen they show a nail through one of the boards and later found the reefed on the sewer vent pipe so hard it had disconnected it inside the house and shifted sink pipe and was leaking.... wish home projects could go more smoothly

I prefer things done right but the already 20k ish price tag was enough them reframing the entire roof and redoing fascia, gutters and whatever might of died to hear the price which they couldn't even tell me.

happy to have new roof that is airtight and has some insulation now. Now just trying to make sure they fix any roof problems before I pay and they are wanting to try to make it right for all the stuff that happened in the house. Never thought stuff would get destroyed inside from a roof job

Ya, no, I know. I wouldn't do something like that myself either. Just been burned in similar ways by so many "pros". Sorry you have to deal with that.
