They have draft capital because they had a poor season (pick #9) and traded UFA's who didn't want to be here.
Calgary was previously a more successful team previously.
It's more a change of circumstances vs. a change in philosophy.

It's 1000% a change in philosophy. Flames were 14th pick before the deadline and sold assets to tank. Under Brad they kept the team intact and tried to re-sign Ufa Brody amongst others. Circumstances were changed due to philosophy.

I don't think you're wrong, but isn't that pretty much the only way to acquire draft capital?
Agree with Bingo Jr. that it is nice to have it for a change. Usually I'm just jealous of the teams that do.

I can't believe we have to wait another month for the Draft.
I need a new hobby.

The best part about it is that i am not even that antsy if they don't draft Tij. Flames are going to get a good prospect no matter what.

True. Give me any of Tij, Catton, Lindstrom, Biuum and I will be happy.
Some years I have my heart set on a specific player at our pick, this year am happy to let the chips fall knowing that we should get a great player.

Part of me still believes the Habs ultimately want Sennecke but don’t want to reach at 5. This leak is part of them trying to get the flames to bite and move to 5 so they can get their guy who is almost guaranteed to be there at 9

Shouldn’t they be for chabot and 7? Since he plays for Ottawa. Either way I hate it haha

All I can say is thank goodness it’s an Olympic summer. At least something is going to help me get through the long NHL summer for a few weeks. The Jays are unwatchable

With so many possible good picks to be had at #9, it is almost better to try and pick out the ones that may bust or just don't pan out. It's kind of the elephant in the room, but there are almost always picks in the 1st round, even the top half, that don't pan out despite the hype leading up to the draft.
I am particularly wary of there being 6 defensemen in the top 12 or so (Levshunov, Silayev, Dickinson, Buium, Parekh, and Yakemchuk) who many see as potential top pairing guy. It's probably just the pessimist in me, but I have to think that one or two of them aren't going to pan out just based on how typical drafts go. It's not impossible, but it would be extraordinary if all 6 actually pan out. I know this draft is currently seen as a bit of an outlier with all the great defensemen available, but I tend to think most drafts have some kind of uniqueness to them, but over time, the results tend to look normal with pretty much equal hits and misses.

Ahhhh, you always know it's nearing draft time when the "move up in the 1st round" trade proposals start making my skin crawl
