Why would they want to? I mean they might for an overpayment. Not something we should be doing.

Maybe Mangiapane keeping a little salary back for Kakko and you might only need to sweeten it with a mid-round pick. Other than being a left winger, Mangiapane could be a really good fit there, as he can play up and down the lineup.
I doubt the Rangers would want to add that much cap. Contending teams are always cap strapped.

Maybe. Kakko's coming off a $2.1m contract and will probably look for at least $3.5 or $4m on his next contract (arguing poor usage this past year after putting up 40 points the year before).

Calgary could take back salary too. But yeah, Mangiapane might not be the right piece.

Because Jankowski took his spot in the lineup. He might be a good change of scenery candidate.

but why would we want to? We're already loaded with depth youth/veteran players.

This team just doesn't need to/shouldn't be on the lookout to add guys like this. Just stick to the process of drafting and developing your own players.

Can we draft a center please. Thanks.
Ya they already look better than the Flames. At least we can keep our heads high that we don't tank. That goes a long way.

Sharks aren’t really the team to point to when it comes to a rebuild. They are like the Flames and the intention wasn’t to do a full rebuild. They are where the Flames will be if they don’t hit on some picks.

I'd rather tank and get a Mackinnon, Makar, Kucherov, Heiskanen, McDavid, Bedard type player than have pride about not losing more.

I am tired of being mediocre and in the mushy middle. We need to tank.

It will be fascinating to watch and see how it plays out in a few years.

Are the burn it down rebuilders (sharks, anaheim and blackhawks) or the retooling flames more succesful?

Hearing some buzz about Anaheim and Montreal talking about a deal based on pick #5 and Zegras.

That sounds like a Montreal type move. They want to contend sooner than later. Would certainly shake up the draft.

Man, that would be a bad decision by Montreal.

The impatience shown by Canadian hockey teams is brutal.

Always a year early and a dollar short.

That's hefty. And a fleecing by Anaheim.

But MTL definitely marches to the beat of their own drum. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to MTL. Seems to be their brand lately to bounce off the walls.

I guess Lebrun was saying Carolina doesn't want futures for Necas. They want "now" players. I wonder if Mangiapane does the trick.

I'd still do a package deal and take Kotkaniemi too.

Interesting if true. Montreal has been targeting young players with upside from teams… Dach and Newhook for example.

It’s really tough to say what Zegras would be worth. Not even two years ago he was considered a future superstar that would be untouchable. Rumoured frustrations from Anaheim’s management/coaching staff have really hurt his reputation. Lots of people think he is more of a shootout/trick shot specialist who won’t develop into much more than he already is. Which might be true - I’m really not sure. He is extremely skilled and he is a center who is only 23 years old. His contract is structured so he can walk to free agency early though which is not ideal.

Somehow I think 5th overall straight up for Zegras is too much from Montreal. Anaheim doesn’t have much to offer Montreal outside of Zegras unless they choose to include Edmonton’s first round pick.

I said it before in this thread, but I believe Zegras isn’t much of a team player, and perhaps a bit of a problem in the locker room- thus the trade rumours.
