Draisaitl's next contract starts at 15M; the dude is getting paid, especially after these playoffs.

Skinner is always out of position unless someone is shooting into his crest.

Nurse blocked a shot doggystyle.

Shoot, shoot, shoot.

His career PPG in the playoffs is 0.013 worse than Mario Lemieux and 3rd best ever. He's getting paid and if he takes a discount, it will be to win...but not in Edmonton.

I especially like the way Dallas has neutralized Sidewinder Kane.

I know! I was thinking the same thing.

"Uh, dude, thats your man. You've gotta...ya know...do something?"

Tie up his stick? Get your body across him? Blow in his ear? Something. Anything!

This isnt Sunday afternoon Family Skate day, just skating beside him isnt going to accomplish anything...thats YOUR MAN! You're a goddamned centerman! Do SOMETHING!

Other than shake your head while staring at the Jumbotron watching your incompetence on the Big Screen while shaking your head and glaring at Skinner.

Although you can keep doing that too because I find it endlessly entertaining.

When McDavid and Draisaitl stare at the heavens with the "My God, these guys suck" looks ohhh...its delicious!

Because, while 'these guys' do indeed suck...you're also hanging them out to dry.

How do you think he's feels knowing that Nurse has made more money than him the past few seasons? He's been on a discounted contract for 8 seasons now. IMO he will go to the highest bidder as it's all about money. This is his time to break the bank and he should be asking to be the highest paid player in league history fully knowing that his contract will be eclipsed the following season by McDavid.

He's also doing his buddy McDavid a solid by setting the market for him the following season.

He probably will get "highest paid player in history" money.

I will laugh at the team that gives him that.

Assuming the Oilers can't offer him a contract he is willing to sign, and he is vague about the future, what scenario is most likely next season?

1) The Oilers trade Drai for assets + cap relief
2) Roll the dice - Keep Drai for next season with the intention to sign him and McBaby to extensions at the end of the season
3) Keep Drai for one final kick at the can with the wonder twins, knowing you are walking him to free agency

As a Flames fan, the preference is 2 or 3, knowing that their team cannot reach the next level due to poor roster construction. I fear they go with option 1 and get a haul, while balancing out their roster.

Keeping him post-deadline and then missing the playoffs anyway and having him walk would be the funniest.

I've thought about this a lot (like, honestly, too much). I think they have to do #3. As much as we hate it, this team has been to the conference finals 2 out of 3 years. They're probably a top 4 team in the league right now. It's hard to get there. You have to take one more shot at it. I just don't see how you could trade Draisaitl at the deadline and sacrifice one of two remaining McDavid years.

If I was an Oiler's fan, I wouldn't be upset. You just gotta bite the bullet and do it.

Maybe he will sign a one year deal at max contract to play out the final year with McDavid. In the end screwing the Oilers because that would use up all the cap space and it would be the same team. I feel sorry for all 2027 draft picks.

Really based on numbers, can he not command $11 to $12 mil?

Why ? He’s a constant playoff performer and won the MVP when McDavid was out

Heck with real coaching he could easily be one of the best 5 players in the league

I would have very little worry signing Drais to a big deal .

They really are between a rock and a grad place. If they move Draisaitl then McDavid leaves for sure, probably even forces their hand and demands a trade in his final year. Keep him and Draisaitl probably still walks knowing McDavid has one foot out of Edmonton already.

I can't see a scenario where they both stay long term.

Unless Drai has stated that he wont be signing in Edmonton, I dont see a case where Edmonton tries to trade him before the deadline. Its cup or bust for this team

What will be interesting is when Drai doesn't sign on July 1st, listening to oilers fans freak out thinking that because he hasn't immediately signed Drai is ready to bolt and ready to take their beloved McAvi with them

A year of good times really!!

I thought McDavid and Draisaitl said that this season was cup or bust for them.

I agree and if they trade Leon, they need to make sure they get a return that McDavid is happy with otherwise they will not do it IMO.

Some teams will pay I'm sure, but the purpose will be to win now or teams that are loaded with youth that want to win now.

Oilers trade Leon, it will be a retool move and if they dip in the standings Mcdavid will be next to go IMO.

Because of this I bet they do not trade him this summer even if he isn't signed.
