edit: Do you have a larger picture of that kitchen? If so, either I or someone else could photoshop the appliances to make them look like stainless.

The glossy black, you are right. But textured black doesn't show anything.

Both are timeless, but stainless steel gives the impression of a professional quality appliance and impress more. Huge factor come resale time. Invest in the stainless.

When I was buying appliances for my kitchen, I went with a mix of both. Stainless steel fridge and range hood, black with stainless accent for the cooktop and black dishwasher. The things that are visible at eye level are stainless and the rest are black. I've never had any doubts about my choices. And the colours in my kitchen (counter top, floor, cabinets, wall colour) are pretty similiar except for my backsplash.

I was at a job today where the customer has a S.S. back splash on thier counter, all S.S. appliances and a S.S. mantel for thier fireplace. It looks very sharp but the first thing I thought of was finger print hell. The guy installing the backsplash showed me this stuff made by 3M that basically acts as a wax for S.S and all but makes it fingerprint proof, it was rather impressive and food grade safe.

Stainless is cool but hard to say where its gonna go. Either it will replace white as the norm or people will get sick of it and white and black will become popular again.

When you used to see stainless in a home, it really made you feel like you were in a unique space where someone had a professional type kitchen and spend a lot of money on it.

Today, you can buy low end stainless appliances in stainless so the cache has somewhat worn off stainless.

Go stainless steel. Seriously, black is just as bad for fingerprints. The cleaners for stainless steel all have some guard that helps with the fingerprints.

White is not as hard to keep clean as black.

Stainless is the most popular color by far in Canada and won't slow down anytime soon. It won't be like harvest gold or avocado green...no worries there.

For resale value, nothing touches stainless.

To curb the fingerprints you can use a couple things. Lemon pledge works well and is easy to find. Stainless steel magic is another cleaner that really does work.

Ours are texturized, so I say BLACK TEXTURIZED.

That would be much appreciated if you could photoshop this with stainless steel. Thanks!

Is that granite? What's the point of a high end surface with low rent appliances? If anything, I'd do the reverse.

Yep, its granite.

Not sure why they did that in the showhome. But granite is included so maybe they wanted to keep the appliance package close to the credit amount. (which is really low)

We are going with an over the stove microwave/fan as well which is not shown in the picture. We are also considering a slide in style stove with the controls near the front so we could still see our tile backsplash.

/\ That floor plan is idential to mine except the sink faces the stove, and our microwave/fan is above the stove, but out kitchen is a cherry wood, with black appliances and it actually doesn't look too dark at all. What drives me up the wall is why is the pantry door white, ours is now painted a peach/red tone (hard to explain color) to match the floor and tiles but I hate it when it's white.

Stainless steel is on the way out. Now I am sure that if you are putting in Viking or Wolff equipment that you will be fine, but the GE or Kenmore stainless look is going away.

The movement now is away from the commercial look and into more traditional appearances.

The next trend is heading towards that dark bronze colour.

We are building and have put in black appliances, including a slide-in range.

Best regards,

Bug

One thing about the slide in stoves if you have toddlers - the front mounted controls are easy for them to fiddle around with and turn on accidently. Some models may have lockout features but YMMV.

I'm not disputing you, but how do you know this? It seems the opposite to what everyone else in the thread is saying.

I don't suppose you can tell me where I can get this 3M stuff??

Bought stainless in our last house and regretted the purchase every day. The fingerprints, the cleanup and the lack of magnet sticking ability was too much of a price to pay for a so called higher end look.

We just moved into another newly built house and put all high end black Kithcen Aid appliances in and I wouldn't change them for anything. They are the shiny "piano" type black and not textured and fingerprints are a rarity - and with a 2.5 yr old hyperactive little boy running around, that is a miracle. We now have dark cabinets, dark granite and darker tile floors and I think the black really adds the the whole feeling of the kitchen; stainless would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Just my opinion.
