We will have plenty to cheer on next season. Wolf, the young guys taking a step like Coronato and Zary.
We already have Aj Greer who is a better player.

I don't know. Did he even move the needle for the Lightning? Sure he's tough but are guys like that really as valuable as they used to be? Seems like the Bennett style player that can play and dish it out has replaced tough guys in today's NHL as there's barely even any fights in the playoffs these days. I would be fine with the Flames taking him on at a low cost addition but I don't really see the allure here unless there's the Flames are getting something else back as he's a replaceable 4th liner at this point.

I’m wait and see on this one.
First of all, what’s the cost to acquire? I would hope the Flames can get him ‘cheap’ relative to what Tampa paid to get him. That could be a tad too optimistic though. Certainly, neither of the two firsts should be part of this deal. A second, perhaps.
He’s got one year left at a cap hit that should not hold the Flames back from doing anything else they want. If they do acquire him, an extension should be a distinct possibility.
I would imagine if the Flames do acquire Jeanotte there will be a very predictable outcry similar to Zadorov and Gudbranson, both of which interestingly were worth while and good acquisitions. Again, completely depends on the cost to acquire, so it’s hard to even form an opinion at this point. But people already complaining about this are missing the point.

I like Greer. But he’s not a better player than Jeannot. Not by a long shot. Jeannot has 42 goals in 227 NHL games. Greer has 13 in 167 games, and he’s a year older. If Jeannot were put on waivers, he’d be snapped up by the first eligible team.

I am wondering if this is related to Marc Savard no longer being with the Flames and there being an opening on the coaching staff. I will stay tuned.

That and how much TB paid to get him is probably why he's not going to be traded. Too much potential still there.
Cirelli is probably the forward they'd offload if they're looking for cap relief. And maybe Cernak on defence if they feel Mcdonagh is enough of an upgrade. I'd certainly target Cernak but he should have value to other teams too. Cirelli feels like Mangiapane to me. Talented, but does he really have another gear?

If an assistant coach is cooking on the skillet, anything baking in the oven with Markstrom?

If we have spots to fill, just fill them with the cheapest good locker room UFA's this summer.

That are going to have good market value at the trade deadline and sign them only for this season.

Jeannot for any sort of acquisition cost is a big no.
There’s just no need pay for players like that, I’d rather Greer at league minimum with no cost to acquire than giving up picks or prospects to sign Jeannot.
He’s already slowed down as did not live up to the cost TBL paid for him at all.

I would throw a 2nd in for Jeannot. Young, tough. Give him plenty of ice time.

A 2nd for Jeannot is worse than the 3rd for Bolig. Just a wasted pick.
You don’t trade 2nd round picks for 10 point players.

If its to help cover the young guys, I do. Whats the odds of a second round pick becoming a player as it is?

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
If you're helping Tampa out of a cap crunch, even slightly, you don't spend. You take on the whole salary and accept a pick.
Jeannot and TB 2024 5th for future considerations or a C prospect

i would ask for an asset from Tampa to take Jeannot. Considering they have to spend on Stamkos or a Stamkos replacement and just spent cap bringing McDonagh back

Greer has 11 goals in 120 games last 2 seasons.
Jeannot has 13 in 131 games last 2 seasons. Prior to what looks to be an outlier he had 5 goals. Looks to be settling back to being that 7 goal 15 point player.
We should definitely be sending picks for him.

I’d rather give our scouts a chance to find a skilled prospect and not trade our pick for a 5 goal guy who brings nothing.
You don’t need toughness or goons in the lineup to protect young players. Plus we have good vets on the team.
