Flames acquired for a 2024 5th round pick to play 9 games.

Was a pending RFA.

Flames can still retain his NHL rights until he is 27 if they still make a qualifying offer.

I know it was only a 5th they gave up, bit still.

Feels like a bit of a waste.

Dumb trade, would have much rather given the scouts another crack at drafting.

Remember all the excitement when the deadline passed and then news leaked that the "Flames made one more trade"? Yeah...it was this one.

Conroy's 1st trade where he sent a pick the wrong way bites him in the butt.

Let’s not overreact on this. It’s a 5th round pick. Can probably easily obtain another one by trading down if needed.

Conroy rocked it this year after being put in a very difficult spot. And the kid is young enough that we retain rights. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn’t. But Conroy deserves the benefit of doubt given the body of work to date. Pizza guy would have traded a higher pick for a bottom pair/7th D who a pending ufa. Was nice to see conroy break that cycle.

Giving up a 5th isn't the end of the world, but felt like a bit of a weird trade at the time even. Oh well.

Obviously he is not ready for full time in the NHL

I would retain him and see if he’d develop in the KHL

It’s not a loss until they completely lost him

I am in need a Rushan Rafikov replacement. I miss googling his HockeyDB to see if he magically turned into a “best player not in the NHL”.

If your scouting staff (likely the same guy that recommended both the Dallas and Vegas returns) spots something, you spend a 5th and bring him in.

It was never a sure thing or it would cost more than a 5th.

Works and it's a great add.

Doesn't and it's worth the swing.

Is this a player going home? Or is this Calgary not offering a contract?

Yeah....we often read on here that people want the Flames to "take a risk" or "swing for the fences".....that's what this kind of deal was.

They saw a "maybe" in his rather limited NHL time and took a shot. It didn't pan out.

Meh.....and move on.

Not a good trade in any sense, but it happens.

Waste of a 5th in a very Treliving-ish trade. Don’t go down this death by a thousand cuts path again, Flames.

We gained more picks from Conroy. Surely we can also give him a chance at spending a 5th to attempt to get a good NHL D. Didn’t happen that way.

He played 9 games? Better than most 5th round picks do.

The good news is that of the 6 trades made by Conroy, this was the worst.

Also good that he didn't make a trade that could be lumped into Gilmour, Phaneuf and Savard.

If it's any consolation, he has already played more NHL games for Calgary than any Flames' 5th round pick of the last 30 years except for Micheal Ferland.

The list goes:
  1. Ferland: 250 games played with the Flames
  2. Keetley: 9 minutes played with the Flames
End of list.

I guess the Flames need to fire the guy in charge of the 5th round.

Mind bottling sentiment for a pick that will be....what? 129th?
