Your concern for these workers is disingenuous.
I feel like you could not have misunderstood his point harder. How does this happen to you so often?

You’re on the edge of making his argument for him. Amazing.

I wasn’t saying don’t tip.

I'm sorry I realize that. I should have quoted the guy you were quoting.

Tipping culture is out of control on this continent and needs to just die. It's so nice going to places like Japan, Australia, etc. where it's just not a thing. Restaurants should just pay serving staff a living wage, drop the stupid requests on pinpads for retail, and eliminate tipping once and for all.
Sounds risky. I'd prefer to wait for my food to arrive before I announce that I am not leaving a tip.

I was in Kelowna, and I overheard these Cactus Club servers off shift, laughing about pulling in $100 an hour on average, or sometimes even hitting $1000 in a day, all in cash. It's insane, man. These servers are raking in 12-15K a month! They're making a freaking bag. And you know what really grinds my gears? Everywhere I go, there's this tip option staring me in the face.

Not the tip option!!!

You poor thing.

The fact that you are bothered by other people voluntarily giving servers money that doesn’t impact you at all should be a sign that you might want to do some personal reflection on why that is.

If you’d like to share how much you make I’m sure we can find someone who will be jealous and argue that you don’t deserve it either.

Cactus club doesn't accept cash do they? At least not here in Alberta.

Edit: just checked and they got rid of that dumb rule.

I do find it funny we don’t tip people who are on their feet all day working their rears off - grocery store cashiers , (historically) fast food workers , but have no issue tipping a server or bartender 15-20%.

Because they typically don’t serve you. They are there to take your money, it’s a one and done interaction. A server or bartender is serving you, in what should be many interactions during your evening, thyme can make or break your night. And a good one will engage in chit chat and small talk looong before they bring over the debit machine. It really GMG when the small talk STARTS at time of payment.

If I order at a counter and carry my food/ drink to my table I typically don’t tip in any restaurant. If I sit down and they bring everything to me thats when tipping takes place. Some places I tip rather generously (servers at the curling club, and golf course) as I see them several times a week, know them personally and understand that we need to tip them to keep them around.

DiRty MoNeY!!! Why TF would an establishment not accept cash? The Dome is the only place I have been that does so.

In theory cashless transactions should be quicker. Additionally there is probably less risk, robbery and employee theft, and less work, ie. Cashing out at the end of a shift or day and bank runs, going cashless.

Yeah, servers in K-Town would probably hate that. All those heat bag customers couldn't flash their wads with cashless payments.

Why would you announce anything? Just don't leave a tip.

If it’s a prompt on a machine, that’s in effect what you’re doing.

Never had a problem so far. But hey, if you want to tip because it's 'risky' not to, then tip your heart out.

Clearly they need more options to announce.

- 20%
- 18%
- 15%
- Dollar Amount
- No tip
- No tip because I believe the servers already make enough
- No tip because even having the tipping option on this machine is a sign that tipping culture is out of control and I am clicking No Tip as a form of protest.
- No tip because while I believe the workers are being underpaid and want you to believe I care about that ultimately it’s the employer’s fault for underpaying you and your fault for not finding a better job so there’s nothing I can do about it and please don’t spit in my coffee.

I’m sure Moneris could whip this up.

"K-Town"

Is this a thing?

Tip - Don't call it K-Town

You missed 8% - because you suck but I want to cover tip out so you don’t lose money serving me

And no tip - The kitchen deserves the tip no the waiter but since I can’t directly tip the kitchen I’m tipping no one.
